Lego commerates 787 by creating a model. Its about 2 feet long and about 2 feet from wing to wing

Yeah, I got to agree... it doesn't look impressive at all. Very ugly looking. They have some other aircraft that look superb, bu this one doesn't seem to cut it!

Is it just me or does it look like the model has really bad sideburns?

I think the Boeing house livery (which I relly like on actual aircraft) isn't doing the model any favors -- being that it is a very "fluid"/curvey look and LEGO blocks are...well...blocky.

If the aircraft has a 2' wingspan, I'd hate to imagine how much room you'd need for just a small terminal, let alone the ramp and runway...  Smile

That looks pretty horrible. For a lego model of almost anything to look realistic, it's gotta be a lot bigger than that (like the A380 Zvezda posted).

Apparently the model is pretty crap. The wings are not sturdy and there are no wheels. Although the livery is good... it has given me afew idea's. I believe my little cousin is getting one for christmas so I going to try and imrpove it a little bit... give it a better nose and undercarriage.

While you're at it, also give it better wings, engines, fuselage and tail!  Wink

It is not possible to make it any better without increasing it's size. At least if they are not putting any spesial parts on there. They should have made it 3 feet instread of 2, would have made ALOT of difference.

BTW: Here is the product link: LEGO

You can zoom and look at all the details.

Also, they have the Wright flyer there too, and that looks kinda cool.

Exactly. They could have used really small blocks in the nose to accomplish more detaill, but you have to remember that a lot of small kids are the people who put these together, and you don't want to get to difficult.

It is actually a very well designed model by LEGO. The reason is that there are no parts made by Lego that would work to smooth out the parts that are supposed to be rounded. This would only be possible on a smaller scale or on a much larger scale (maybe something four times the size so that every 2x2 stud area could be detailed with 1x1 items and a greater usage of plates could be made but that would be much too big for a set) model due to the types of pieces available. And for those of you that might want to say that LEGO can just make a new piece and use it for the model, that would be very wasteful and uneconomical for them to do in addition to the fact that they are actually trying to reduce the number of pieces produced.

Actually I believe the 'curvey' parts can be madeby completely different method to what they have used.

I know it's not a 787 nose (its an a340 nose), however it demonstrated that with abit of work, the 787 features could be built better.

Again, same thing with the tail of the fuselage...

Yeah, the 787 Lego Dreamliner is really cool. I got it a couple of weeks ago. True that it may not be the prettiest thing up close, but, when I stand at the other side of my room, the thing looks pretty nice.

Well it finally happened. Someone made the Whale look better than the Airbus's Worst Nightmareliner.

I can't see the fuel burn being so low with that sort of aerodynamics.

mmmmmmmmm That has me thinking......... Incase anyone thinks that lego constantly covers my room floor (from the pictures)........it doesnt.

It is only taken out when my younger cousin visits as it's the only way to shut him up! The rest of the time its stored in the spare room!
