Hello everyone. THis past week i was able to clear out my family;s old "playroom" and it is now all ot myself. I want to create an airport in there for my herpa wings collection (100+ airplanes) now im having trouble. I want to have a realastic airport with a realisitic runway from start to end. FOr a 11,000 foot REAL runway. What would the length be in 1:500 scale and even 1:1000 scale. Also, does anyone know how to calculate or convert real length to 1:500 length?

Yes...a 10,000 foot runway would be about 20 feet long in your room.

If I'm not mistaken a scale of 1:500 means that for every 500 feet of real runway is represented by 1 foot in the scale model.
Therefore, for an 11,000 foot runway at a scale of 1:500 you must divide the 11,000 feet into 500 foot segments, the result will be the number of 1 foot segments you need to represent in your model.
Hence: 11000/500=22 feet on your model;
or else at a scale 1:1000: 11000/1000=11.
I might be wrong but I think thats the way to do it, hope this helps.

Simple- divide the real length by 500.
In your case, 11000/500... That'll be a 22 foot runway.
With 1:1000, its the same principle- 11000/1000- an 11 foot runway.
[EDIT]Looks like I've been beaten by 2 others! Either way, just divide by 500 or 1000 (whatever the case may be) and you get your result.

HAHA! That was really funny! But nevertheless, I would've never thought about making a scale runway. Awesome. If you pull it off Apollo, get some pics!

I just realized the probably a 9 foot runway will be sufficent (maybe shorter). Im really focusing on the terminal detail. None the less i would really like to make a full airport but it would make the room really small for more than three people to be in there at the same time.

Post some pics here if when it's coming along. Sounds like a fun project.
