Got one for Christmas!!
Awesome stuff!! Could call in sick forever..
However, to fly the missions and to learn about flight humbles me in many ways. I think this is pretty realistic, and it proves the level of skill required and expected by a pilot these days.

Lol, I was just replying to it when a mod mooved this one to the hobby forum.
So, let me type my stuff again
I fly the sim for over 6 years now and started flying for a virtual airliner for more then 3 years. I have 1300 hours logged after completing 180 flights so yeah, I fly the sim to.
You should try some payware or freeware addon stuff to make the sim more intresting. Although it will never be the real dela or close, you can always do better then the default stuff. Try www.avsim.com or www.flightsimnetwork.com for some pretty nice freeware addons for FSX (I guess you got that one)
Offcourse there are some payware addons that make the sim realy nice such as scenery's of mega airports or planes that have a fully working cockpit.
PMDG, Level-d sim, cloud9. Just look for them and you will find out how good the sim can really be!
Happy new year to you as well and have fun with the sim!

This is one of the more "relaxed" forums on a.net. Never be afraid to ask any questions you may have. There's lots to learn about FS and most of the members have a very extensive knowledge and will be glad to help you out the best they can.
Just a word of advice, once you get into it, you'll find there is lot's of up's and down's in this hobby.
To set you in the right direction, check this thread out ....

Quoting Scalebuilder (Reply 5): Hey... you have to excuse me for this time around
No worrys, and welcome. Yes this is truly a one of a kind site, there our folks that have been member around here since the site opened, "96 I think". Along with folks like myself that have been on fs since the late 80's and folks that have been into it even longer then that. I belive I saw that the Genral aviation forum on the site is the busyest around the net, dont hesitate to ask anything there, I get a kick out of it when the people that live on the forum get all snooty. Again no worrys and welcome.

I have been using FS probably longer then anyone here. 1980s, IBM XT, black and white monitor 2 floppy drives and NO hard drive. FS at that time only had Chicago and New York airports and only two types of planes. A Cessna and a converted Cessna that had a machine gun and could drop bombs. The planes you had to shoot down looked like sideways "H"s.

BTW - thanks everybody for all these great tips and advice! I'm just at the beginner stage at this point. I have transitioned to jets, and I am flying a CRJ-700 on a ferry flight from Edinburgh to Glascow right now.

Dude, MS Flightsim = Life.
I simply could not live without it. I agree with the others:
Consult flightsim.com or avsim.com for more downloads, and don't be afraid to ask questions to all of us.

Actually it was supposed to be a Sopwith Camel. That's the flightsim I started on as well.

Ah, that sounds more like the first one I used on the Apple ][. The "hills" were a couple of jagged walls at either end of the square "world". I suppose it was "as real as it gets" back then.
25 Mohavewolfpup: MSFS isn't on the site, but if you go to www.the-underdogs.info and type flight in search, you'll find alot of ancient games (endorsed by chuck yeager

27 Airfoilsguy: Don't forget the black water. I remember when the next flight sim came out with actual blue water green grass, bridges more buildings and the statue

29 David L: That rings a bell. It must have been a later Sublogik version or FS98, I think.
30 Airfoilsguy: Anyone find any of the sinkholes in FS9? There is one that you can easly fly a lear into and land on the bottom, 15,000 feet below sea lever.
31 ACDC8: I don't think it was FS98, IIRC that was the first one with the B737, correct me if I'm wrong on that one. Must have been in the early '90's. It wasn
32 Continental: I definitely have. There was one somewhere en route from MSP to somewhere in Florida. Quite bizarre, but nevertheless hilarious.
