Couldnt tell you much except for phoenix is NOT hot. Its very nice now....people always assume that arizona, as a whole, is always hot.

I live in Phoenix, so I'll give you a little help in that area.

First off, It is NOT at all hot right now. In fact, I have been forced to wear a light jacket to school the past 2 days. Its very nice out.

As far as photography, I have always felt that Phoenix is one of the absolute greatest cities in the world for aviation photo opprotunites. Phoenix Sky Harbor International has many many great photo spots that I visit very often. As far as general aviation airports, you have a wide selection.

Goodyear in the SouthWest (Light GA traffic, plus airliner storage)
Glendale in the West (Light GA Traffic)
Deer Valley in the North (Very heavy GA traffic and light business jet traffic)
Scottsdale in the NorthEest (Heavy Business Jet traffic)
Falcon Field in the East (Moderate GA traffic)
Williams Gateway in the SouthEast (Light GA traffic plus the possibility of exotic aircraft)

Tons of great GA Airports encompassing the city on all sides.

In terms of overall photography goodness, I would have to go with Deer Valley. (although I am a little biased since my flight school is there Smile )

It is the 2nd busiest airport in AZ (in terms of takeoffs and landings), with an assortment of business jets to liven it up. Plus, it allows you a maximum of freedom to walk around the ramp. You can get extremely close to any aircraft out there.

Here are some photos from Deer Valley. As you can see, it is great for close up spotting of anything that comes in. (shameless plug: I took the helicopter shot)

This airport allows great photo subjects, plus the ability to get those photos. And, if taking photos isnt your main objective, it has a great restaraunt with an observation deck on top.

Top notch airport. (To get there, Just take 7th street north. 7th street runs directly into the parking lot. You cant miss it.)

Any more questions?

There is good spotting at DTW at the large parking structure. If you get to the top, you can walk around, and you have a very good view of the landing and departing traffic. The last time I was there a cop asked me what I was doing, but he had no problems with it, and was very friendly. Also, try driving the perimeter of the airport and find a restraunt or hotel parking lot that is in the app/dep path.

Good LucK!

For MDW there are some good spots. For Runways 31L, 31R, and 31C there is a spot between a Burger King and Oil Express or some lube place on 63rd and Cicero. For Runways 4L and 4R try near this store on 63rd and Central. It's ok but not good in the morning. For the other two it's just that the airport stretches from 55th to 63rd north and south and Cicero and Central going east and west. Each corner has it's own runway where the planes land or takeoff from. it depepds on what runway they use. Some places you can try on the sidewalk not far from the airport to get good photos.

I live nearby TEB. From EWR take the NJ Turnpike North to exit 16W. Pay the toll ($1) and proceed onto Route 3 west. Proceed on Route 3 west for about a 1/2 mile and start looking for the big sign that says Route 17 north. Take Route 17 north to the 4th traffic light and make a right turn. TEB will be at the end of that road over the railroad tracks. With no bad traffic you can make it to TEB from EWR in about 25 minutes. Just so you know TEB has never been the same again since 9/11 when it comes to spotting activities. Back in the day spotting was very easy to do around here and there were never hassles, but now since 9/11 the authorities have closed off many of the spotting areas completely and have added security to every entrance to the hangers/terminals. TEB used to be a very popular destination in the summer for the British biz spotters, the guys who log reg's.
