I wanted to let people know and invite all to come to LAX on Saturday, October 8th, for a day of spotting form sunrise to sunset.

Myself and fellow shooter Tommy A. will be going to LA the night before for the weekend. We were hoping some folks would like to come out to do some shooting.

Anyone in LA goingot be around? Anyone outside of LA want to come by and take advantage of the great October light at Imperial Hill?

How lucky you are to be able to decide to fly over to the West Coast for the day!  

I certainly wish I could be there to shoot with you guys! I've not really been able to experience LAX in superb conditions!

However, I may need to earn some Virgin Atlantic Tier Points next year so I may have to either hit up the East or West coast at some point, I'm sure Mr Sharps will join me!

At what time of day in October, if at all, does the light get good for IN n' Out?

Well on Oct. 8 the sunrise is at 5:52am and sets at 5:27pm. From late afternoon at about 3 or 4pm until after sunset the In'n'Out park should be fine, but I stress should. If you search for pics from LAX in October you can get a good idea of what can be shot. It seemed like most shots were from the South side of the airfield, but some shots were taken from the park and down the 24's as well.

I thinking that the Lincoln Blvd overpass would be a lot better than the IN N Out for that late sun, actually. The planes will be t/o'ing right intot he sun, and I think it makes for a nice effect.

Also, I'm hoping for ATA L-1011 action. Are there set times for that planes? Doesn't it usually run on the 24s? If so, What are good locations to shoot the 24s from the south side? What are my options if I really want that bird?

Yea really, as long as you don't have your camera out or have the windows in your car tinted you should be all right.

If I decide to go along, I would arrive around noon from SLC and go back to DC around 10:30pm. Is it worth going there just for few hours of shooting?
Right now Delta has $189 special on LAX from DC. I think thats very good price.

I have to check with work/airfare/hotel but I'm looking into it. If anyone has good suggestions for hotels I'm all-ears. Last hotel I had near LAX was not all that great.

I've flown into/out of LAX a few times over the years, but I've only done a wee bit of actual spotting one afternoon in early June of this year. It was surprisingly chilly for what I thought would be a nice summer day. I had rented a convertible and just chilled (literally) with the top down throwing a munch with the requisite IN-N-OUT burger/fries/shake and watched some heavies roll in from the grassy knoll across from 24R. When a marked security vehicle showed up, I thought 'oh great, here we go again', but they just chilled and joined the small group of random spotters watching the planes come in. I cannot tell you what a relief that was compared to SAT/SAA

Anyway, I'm interested in this meet because I want to see more than just the grassy knoll this time and I also want to check out the simulators if at all possible (see the other thread about LAX on the same dates).

Hey, if this were SAT, I'd be making all kinds of suggestions. Just be damn glad it's not.  

As i live down in San Diego... i dont require a hotel... just need to hop on one of the 24 daily Amtrak trains that go to and from LA. At the moment... looks like everything is set.. i dont need a ride what so ever from the train station in LA. I know Public Transit in Los Angeles like the back of my hand. If you have any questions on other things to do... dont hesitate to ask me.

For those who are looking for cancelable hotel reservations, I was finding 2* to be around $100 (all-in, before discounts) and 3* to be around $125 per night (all-in, before discounts).

Priceline is currently accepting $41 bids ($55 all-in) at the 3* level and appears to be sending folks mainly to either Embassy Suites or the Radisson. 4* bids were being accepted at the $65 level and being sent mainly to the Sheraton Gateway. 2.5* bids were not being accepted at any level and will most likely result in an involuntary upgrade to 3* if you bid $41 or above.

Both Delta and AA were operating 764 and 763 equipment into LAX from ATL and DFW respectively. I didn't come across any 772 or 744 positioning during my search.

Just FYI, 3* on Priceline (Embassy Suites, Raddison, or similar) is something like $55 all-in for your very own room. If nothing else, maybe you can use that to bargain down the price.

The tour is unofficial, will take you around the Training Center & show you the various training devices.

As for time, I will let the group decide, the group is going to meet with Dacman at 0800 for the spotting, perhaps we can start the tour at/or around 0700 & ask Dacman to delay the LAX spotting adventure to 0900...

If you live in Van Nuys, you can stop by the Training Center anytime, just let me know in advance...

I can offer MD11 simulator rides on Saturday, 08-October. On Sunday, my MD11 is booked with 2 UPS crews & 1 crew from China Cargo.

I will certianly be at this meet as this is my home city and I live only 30 mins away from LAX and Saturday is my normal day to go visit LAX and Imperial hill. I will start building/simulator tours at 0700, on 08-October, Saturday if anybody wants a tour, just send me an email at mpenguin1@yahoo.com, so that I have an idea how many people to expect.

Three times I tried to go spotting with Phil, three times the weather sucked! I thought I should warn you all, guys. You might want to try to keep Phil as far away as possible from the airport, maybe find him a nice latino looking girl so he doesn't spoil the day for you all!  

I am green with envy, you know?

If I decide to show up, I'll be sure to bring my old photo albums (I have not taken any pictures since 2001) and offer [re]prints for whoever wants.

Look for the bald headed guy (maybe wearing a Western hat) driving the burgundy Ford Mustang Cobra convertible.

I should be there along with a few others. My first time in California, I'm looking forward to it! See you on Imperial Hill (well..I guess..)

I work from 6Am to 2:30pm in downtown town Los Angeles so I would not be at LAX till after 3Pm on Saturday. But I will make my best effort to show up as I would love to meet some fellow a.net members.

As I said Mr. Whitebird.... Cool and maybe even fog on the 8th. Clear and beautiful on either side if it. That's why Jason is affectionately known as the "Rain Man". Where ever he goes the weather takes a turn for the worse.

There's no way I'm going to be there at 1700 on sunday. That's kind of pointless. I'll take a ride out there Saturday around lunch time. I'll cruise by Proud Bird, the In-N-Out, and maybe Imperial. If people are there, great. If not, oh well.

I'll be there Saturday around 1pm, and Sunday from 8am until 7pm. (on the hill).

Dacman has already offered me a ride from the terminal to the hill on Saturday. If he's as much crazy as I am then he will come on Sunday too

I'm busy on Saturday morning, but intend to join the group in the afternoon, if there is enough room on the hill. Maybe I'll have to settle for someplace down the hill. To think I was there for 3 hours completely alone on Tuesday morning.

At this point now, most of you are probably here in and around LAX and might not see this, but is there a specific place or time everyone is meeting tomorrow morning? If I don't hear, I am going to just head over to Imperial Hill and In n Out in the morning.
