Sorry active links dont work with angelfire, and also these links don't work with netscape, only with Internet Explorer.

Looks like you have a bit of camera shake on these (due to long exposures no doubt). Btw, you misspelled the 3rd link... for anyone wishing to open the pic it's Dash8 and not Bash8.

What I found with the night shots I took is that the camera didn't compensate nearly enough for the lighting. However, reducing red slightly, and kicking in LOTS of blue afterwards on Paintshop Pro made everything look much better.

I'd suggest the crj pic could be an upload candidate if you do the following: with the original sized pic, rotate left maybe 1 degree; crop out most of the building bottom left; sharpen; resize down to 1024 pixels wide, use unsharp mask to get crisp (if you can), adjust rgb to give a more natural white tone. (I've just experimented with this and given it blue +50, red -18, green -3). It all depends on if you can get enough sharpness from the original file.

Thanks. In the original large version it is decently sharp, so i'll try what you said.
Thank you

here we are (nice little webpage for you Big grin)

All i need to know is whether the problems are the conditions, the photographer, the camera or the scanner (especially the grain in the black and those lines).

Thanks

I'm not great at photography, most of my pictures are similar, or not as good as yours. The only thing I see is they are too dark. It might be the conditions, there is no sun on the side of the aircraft you shot, which in england from what I hear is normal. Good Luck

Is this one too soft/dark?

CYKA, I think it is a great shot, the tails a little dark but you can't really help that.

CYKA : A beautiful shot of the Dash 8 . . . the deep green tail of the Air Canada livery is very very difficult to capture well, and the T-tail of the Dash 8 does not help.

The dark tail situation is further emphasised by the fact that this shot is taken when the sun was very very high up in the sky, possibly even in the vertical position.

I am sure a shot taken either earlier in the day (or late in the afternoon - depending on the direction) would have exposed the tail beautifully. A lower sun's position would also ensure that the stabilizer's shadow is not cast on the tail itself.

Great composition and background.

CYKA, I love that Dash shot. It does need just a little bit of touch up. I made a couple quick adjustments in photoshop and here are the results:

and for comparison, here is your orginal:

In photo shop I used the sharpen edges feature (the best I could do working with a compressed .jpg file), used the "auto levels" option and then used "fill flash" to lighten up the aircraft a little.

LGW, that shot looks like it's leaning to the left to me. Also, the colours look a little washed out (esp. on the Cathay tail). Would suggest a slight reduction in gamma to see if that helps, and maybe a slight increase in colour saturation. I think the whole pic also needs a little sharpening - not much - but the lettering doesn't look quite as crisp as it should.

Ok slight twist to this thread Wink/being sarcastic

Lets play guess the rejection reason on this shot (btw its a compressed version of the original)

Screeners and their real selves need not apply!

Remember no prizes its just for fun  Laugh out loud

Cheers

Ok - it was killing me - I had to go look. And all I'm saying is that it wasn't any of us who rejected it - 'twas Johan.

Because it's ten times better than anything I take? I agree bad angle, although I like it.

Well a poor turn out of entries in to the competition!

The reason my shot was rejected was because.....(drum roll)....... Its poor quality.... Nuts

S4 was correct it wasnt any of the screeners that rejected it.

I played around with it in photoshop and I think you'd get it in the db if it looked more like this [excuse quality issues for working from the JPEG]

Whew! If Paul's shot was dumped for poor quality, then the standard must have jumped considerably. Personally I think Johan rejects the odd pic at random from regular contributors just to stop us getting complacent.

Cheers,

Colin

Does anyone know if Johan is on a business trip or something? The regular que has not been touched for days, only the travel list photos have been getting uploaded.
