Topic: Spotting At CDG And Other French Airports Username: Katzengras Posted 2006-05-24 16:14:07 and read 4335 times.Hi!
My mother had won two tickets for a trip with AF from BSL to any location inside France. I think the airport with the most traffic is CDG. But how is it to photograph there? What´s allowed and what´s forbidden when i take photos at CDG? Where i can take good pictures there? And which other french airports are advisable? Thanks for your answers!

For info, it is officially forbidden to take pictures around CDG.
http://www.kerozen.org/
I was at Orly at the end of April and met photographers who told me that, the police, circulating a lot, give high fines to spotters. I ignore if these measures have been removed meanwhile. Double check before going there... or be ready to move quickly. ORY does not have that restriction (yet...).
Good luck.

Please don't kill me for that but....
I had a nice chat with a spotter from Paris about one month ago. I told him that I was surprised to see that people were still taking pics at CDG and uploading them to the internet. His answer was...
"I'm going to spot and take pictures every week-end both at ORY and CDG and I never had a single problem".
I still have to find a forum where someone says that he had to pay a fine for spotting in France. Two friends of mine went spotting last week-end at CDG and they didn’t have any problem and they met other spotters there.
So yes there is a law where you may get a fine (I doubt it…) but if you act with responsability and stay quiet I guess that you won’t have any problem.
All the best
Alex

Thanks!
Can you tell me how i can found the position, where your friends took their photos? I hope its not too far away from the terminal, or reachable by train or bus. Can someone else tell me his experience of the last weeks at CDG? I found many pictures on anet, took at March, April and May. So it must be possible to spot there.

Personally I always loved to take pictures at the parallels taxiways, but I don't dare travelling to CDG yet for this single purpose... So I will rather head to LHR or AMS.

I dont know whether this is valuid for CDG as well but at least in Nice there wasnt a problem at all.
If you want to please your mother, take NCE! Attractive approach over the sea if landing from the West (mostly used!) and lots of things to do for your mother, too!

But not just the airport! The City is also like.. WOW!

thats just a joke really. not even as though they are trying to prevent terrorism or anything if they are giving people 'fines'.
don't even know where to start on how idiotic it is.
unreal.

I agree, what a stupid rule! I think that's disgraceful to ban the photography for spotters. So what about all the pictures of Concorde F-BVFF on her new perch? What can the police do about that? Or if you're taking pictures of landing aircraft before they make it to the "Restricted zone"? Ludicrous.
Just out of interest, what happens if you just don't pay the fine?
Bring on the passes that Johan suggested for A.net photographers, I say.

You will need to register to read the Topic.

As I understand, the law was passed by councilpeople in the city council district CDG is in in so it wouldn't have anything to do with NCE any way.

Of course and nice backlight till 15:00 ..... , means you miss all the bigger movements anyway. Thoug I ahve to admit its quiet chilly to lie on the beach and have a couple of beers during spotting.

On a side note, congratulations to you and the team at Brooklands for getting the fin onto DG. I have emailed Neil, and will be making another appearance at the end of July for the opening, hope to see you again there.
