Hi guys,
was just browsing through my pictures here on a.net and thought: which was the first one I got accepted and when.
I know many try quite long to upload and to get one shot accepted, it is not easy, but don't give up.
So I checked out my pictures, selected "oldest additions first" and here we go:

Accepted September 20th in 2004... Quite some time ago. And it felt great to read the notification email. I don't have that email anymore as I changed email providers after 2004.

Accepted March 24, 2004. Shot with a very simple Kodak point and shoot digital camera and no post-processing done if I recall correctly. I've come a long way since then ^^

I had been trying to get photos accepted for about 6 months before that shot made it in. As soon as I saw on the news that a C-5 had landed at the airport, I knew that the circumstances of the shot, being the first C-5 to visit in over 10 years, would give it a fighting chance of getting accepted. I was actually on vacation in California driving up highway 1 when I got the acceptance message... and one day later I was taking screenshots on my iPhone of it on the front page of Airliners.net while sitting on my flight home. Certainly not my favorite shot, but I love the whole story behind it.

This was my first, after I submitted something terrible with an Olympus P&S and had it rejected not long before. However I had just received the 50D I use today and after what was I believe either a level or a color rejection I got this lovely Kalitta into the database. I believe N712CK is now stored, though.

January 2003, when I started editing the shoots of my trip from Boston to Dallas with a stopover in Chicago. The pictures were taken with a Sony DSC-P5 pocket camera which I bought a few days before.

Actually I seem to recall two photos were accepted at the same time, after a couple of tries and some friendly advice from the screeners. Just looking back now reminded me that at that time I was trying to upload at larger sizes - not the most sensible move for a new starter here.

My first accepted shot was this airport overview of Dallas Love Field, added 29 June, 2007. I was lucky with the photo op, as the approach path into DFW that day took me right over DAL. And ofcourse, the really clean window on the old Mad Dog that day helped

At the moment, many things are changed, my technique is improved as well as the equipment.

My first acceptance was already somewhere in January 2002. Got married half a year before and family takes most of my time since. Therefore I have only about an average of two pictures a year since... But kids are growing and may be I'll have some more time in the future!

I can't remember whether I had any rejections before my first shot was accepted, in fact I had two acceptances on the 14th June 2005 - I think I was just lucky.
I certainly had a lot of rejections after that and my next and first airliner shot was not accepted until about 4 months later when I began to understand the requirements prevailing at that time. My shots nowadays tend to be mainly airliners at Heathrow which is relatively local to me.

My first was accepted 13 Oct 2007. I remember spending an age editing this one! I remember how proud I was to get this image up because I was playing around with aperture priority. Photography has come a long way since then!

Back in 2002, I had submitted a scan of a slide and it got rejected. Discouraged, I resorted to just being a looker. In February 2004, I had some digital photos on my computer taken at the IAF museum the previous October and I thought "why not try again?" The images were taken with a 2.1 Mp Canon PowerShot A20 and were 1024x768 as taken. Imagine my surprise when this one was accepted on the first try - this encouraged me on. I have since been back and have retaken the photo with a much better camera. I'm thinking of submitting it for #3000. As of right now, I have 169 acceptances to go to reach this total.

My first shot was uploaded on August 4th 2009.
I had been trying for a couple of years to upload with no success, I was finding the whole situation unbelievably frustrating and nearly gave up on several occasions. My last throw of the dice was to upgrade my equipment, I bought a brand new Nikon D90 and armed it with a AF-S 70-300mm VR lens and tried again, this shot was taken on the first outing with the new gear.
Who would have thought that it also helped to be on the South Side at Manchester with the sun behind me why would that make any difference.... 
It was a combination of factors in the end, the right equipment, the right positioning, the right technique and learning how to edit! Every day I shoot now, I try to learn something new, it's never ending. The day I got the email saying that I had a shot uploaded I was over the moon! I rung all my friends who I thought would be (slightly) interested so they could click on it.
In the end, for a fairly plain side on shot, she has rung up nearly 7500 hits. My second upload is still my biggest hitter to date at just over 53000 clicks. I thought I had it made and it was going to be easy after that, I wish I could say it has been! But it has been loads of fun and I have got some shots here that I am really proud of. I have also had some nice help along the way from Peter Hulse and Mick Bajcar to name just a couple, my thanks to them both and the other screeners that have helped me to where I have got today, long may it continue!

Back than I knew very little about Airliners.net. Actually, I thought that in accordance with its name it only had photos of airliners and nothing else. One day I was searching for some Yak-18T photos and was quite surprised to find some on this website; I realised that it had pictures of GA aircraft, too. At the time I was working on an article about the Curtiss Robin. I had taken some shots for the article and I thought, "Well, if they take GA photos, why don't I send them some pictures of this airplane; as it is quite rare, some people may appreciate being able to see them." And so I did; I uploaded three or four photos of the same aircraft. One of them was accepted; I was very surprised that the other ones got rejected; I had no idea what 'double' or 'motive' meant. Then I thought that it was actually pretty cool, to have my picture on Airliners.net, and I decided to upload some more. And that was it - I got hooked.
Recently I tried to upload again one of the shots that were rejected in that my very first batch. I did however apply some additional sharpening. Surprisingly, it got accepted, too. Only took five years and nine month

Not the best shot, but at the time I only had a 18-55mm lens, luckily at Manchester we have the mound and it was good enough....
I don't go spotting that often and sometimes it is months between visits. I remember asking for advice with this one, and then found out it was accepted whilst I was away for the weekend

Ah yes...
I remember the hour my first picture was accepted after 22 rejections of previous work. I can attest, it was a good feeling being counted among the photographers within this site.

Good to have the first into the database. Many thanks to the screeners and to those in here for the feedback. Have found Canon DPP alone to not do so well in post-processing. Lightroom reduced the noise and does a much better job.

A slide-scan added on the last day of 2003 - I didn't realise it was so long ago. Though pricy at the time, my Nikon Coolscan V slide scanner turned out to be a very worthwhile investment, as I am still scanning my own slides as well as some for friends.

Having been a slide photographer, I barely had any prints to scan. When I bought a scanner, I tried this one and was surprised that it got accepted. Seeing it today, I'm still surprised it was accepted
Of course I wanted more and I bought a slide scanner. And here we are, 622 scanned slides later, hundreds more waiting to be edited an possibly thousands more left to be scanned... .

This is my first photo that got accepted. Happened in December last year (2011) when I was having my holidays in Osaka.

I was delighted of course, this is my first upload of that particular photograph although I failed in 9 previous attempts on another different photograph lol.

Since then, I've only had one more photo accepted, which happened only a few days back. Both self-edited (also self taught myself my photography 'skills' which wasn't good at all last June), which I'm proud of as I didn't know how to edit anything in November. This gives me the motivation to learn more and improve further.

This was mine. It was a "YES !" Big surprise as it was a gray and low visibility day... Since then, the orange colors have been washed out.

When I was a kid, I loved flying and airplanes. But in 1996, I had to fly in a tropical storm, and after we landed on my CLE-LGA flight, another flight (a DL MD-88) clipped an approach light on landing, had a gear collapse, and came skidding to a halt on the runway just a few meters away from long island sound. This experience utterly soured me on flying and for more than a decade I had a real fear of flying, until my job required learning all about aviation and specifically the air cargo industry in 2010.
The more I learned, the less afraid I became. And nowadays I wish I hadn't essentially driven everywhere (except international flights) from 1996 to about 2004. If I flew back then, it was only because a Pontiac Bonneville hardtop can't actually cross an ocean under it's own power. I missed the tail end of the time I could have flown on my favorite plane - the 727-200!
Discovering A.net while learning more about aviation made me wonder if I could get good enough to get a photo accepted, and soon enough, it happened.

The quality of what I upload has come a long way since then. Tons of rejections in those early days. Still a fair number these days, in fact, but I wouldn't do it if it weren't fun.

The queue is currently at about eight days long, so your images will likely be screened on the 16th, as you uploaded them on the 8th. However, having now seen the two you have in the queue, I can save you the five-day wait and tell you that they will certainly both be rejected if you leave them to be screened. They have multiple problems (blurry, noisy, bad info) that are likely not fixable, so I suggest removing them from the queue. If you would like more details, please start a thread in the Feedback Forum

Taken October 1st 2002 at BRU and accepted to the DB on October 6th 2002. Almost ten years ago (and 720 successful uploads). What a terrible edit, I must say...Time goes fast indeed.
Now let's hope some of my current photos in the queue get accepted in the next few days

My first accepted photo is rather a 'collectors item' : A triple seven in Varig colours! Shot with a Minolta 500Si super and scanned with an old-fashioned no-name scanner.

Same here. I thought about having my earliest uploads removed because they are awful, but I kept them out of nostalgia.
