Jay,
dont do it. Go get some new glass instead. That camera is more for photojournalist type of stuff- the size of the output is gonna be a bit restrictive for aviation photography- for the fashion stuff probably ok but there is a reason why the 1Ds is 8 grand, not 4. An EOS 10D goes for 1400 bucks today, thats the best deal you'll ever get for anything Canon offers I assure you. The 1D is old news already imho.

So Joe, what you are saying is it would be better for me to get a 10D instead of a 1D, since right now, the 1Ds is just too cost prohibitive for me?

I dont know Jay, how do you feel about parting with 8 thousand dollars for a camera body? that should answer your question...
Seriously though, with my 10D i'll go heads up against any 1Ds, because the glass is alot more important than the body (unless you need 11mp) so i'd rather have a 10D and the best glass than the best body and mediocre lens. Ofcourse the best is having the best of both, but then you may need to sell your car or something
