Just got my complimentry copy of the September edition of Airline Review (AR) magazine. I let AR use a handful of images when they started to help them get going. They now take images from airliners.net of mine and use them with no asking for permission. I do get free copies every month so for now that is OK. Not saying that I agree with the way they work but for now, in the short term I will let them off as long as free copies keep coming
Now, many people where very attacking of AR when they started, paper quality, artile quality etc and we put it down to the fact they are new etc and still learning, but after a quick look through the mag, I notice 3 of my images used. One correctly attributed to myself (VS 744 rotation shot), one attributed to Colin Abbott (BA 772 holding) and one attributed to 'PaulDopson' (Concorde nose with BA 744, which looks awful as they have pronted it from my 1024 image on airliners.net). Also, there is an image attributed to 'Boeingn' (Virgin Blue shot) and one credited to 'Paul Dabson' (JAL 744)
OK, enough of the critism I also would be interested in what you lot all think of the magazine, the articles, the photos, the printing, their working practices now after they have been up and running for a good few months, teething problems should now be mainly ironed out.

The first tip would be to never let them use a photo of yours. I've chatted to a few people which the magazine has used their photos without authorisation.
I for myself have a very long history with them....
In December I sent them a photo CD with pictures to choose for their Geneva Airport report. I had featured about 600-1000 photos on there (650MB). The magazine acquired rights to use 9 of them at $16.66 (to have a lump sum of $150). When the magazine arrived I saw that they used 11 and not 9. I decided not to say anything back then because I was writing articles. After having submitted two articles to the magazine (on time), they were rejected. one was on Spirit Airways of which an interview I wrote was published and my article paraphrased. The other was on Airline Websites, I'm looking out for some paraphrasing as ARGinMIA (who works for the mag) has started posting on the forum about airline's which need a new website.
During the August issue I was informed by several people I know that a photo of mine was in the issue. After looking back at the photos acquired during the February edition I saw that they had never acquired rights for that photo (and sent them an email). The magazine claims to have rights (which they don't).
Other photographers have had their photos used without authorisation (a lot actually). The guys running this mag are out to screw photographers, my tip is not to reply at all. Add to the fact the promises the magazine made to this website (free issues to the crew which never came...), the money owed to Johan and you will get the general idea of how these guys run their business...

Got my copy today and stumbled over a typical FRA runway 18 rotation shot looking familiar to me (Fedex A310) credited to Colin Abbott. I searched for it, and it turns out it was actually taken by Alexander Jonsson.
