Your photos probably came out dark because of crappy weather. The lens (I own it) really does suck when there isn't a lot of sun (or at least that is my opinion). What setting is it on when you are shooting? Tell more about the weather conditions and the settings...

Felipe, I use the same Canon 75-300 USM as you, it's not too bad for its low price. I also recommend using the monitor calibration software. Most monitors need to be adjusted from the factory settings. I also ran your pics through photoshop and they were easily improved.

photographing with a D60 since over 1 year I first used the same lens like you.
I was not very satisfied because it was vigneting (dark edges) at 300mm.
Now I use a 100-400 IS L USM (a really not cheap lens) but the results are quite good.A alternate to this lens will be the 75-300 IS which a friend of mine is using.It produces a good quality.But reworking with a Photo editing program (i.e.Photoshop) is always necessary.
