Hi Guys,

My usual request for assistance! I'm off to the USA next week and on the return have arranged an 8 hour transit at DFW. So my questions are:

1) Are there any good locations within the terminals (I'm flying on AA) for photography
2) Any good outside locations that are within a fair walking distance!

Or if anyone wants to meet up, that would also be highly appreciated, lunch would be on me Big grin

Thanks to all in advance for the help.

Andrew

I went there last September. My sister and I found a nice li'l spot that is okay for just watching...but it probably wouldn't work out to well for photography. It is a designated "spotting" spot, however. If I remember correctly, its on the SSE side of the airport and you probably need a car to get there. Perhaps someone here knows better than I.

Andy,

If you do not plan to get a rental car or hitch a ride, then I'd suggest that you stay inside the terminal, as nothing is within fair walking distance in Dallas!!

The inside of the terminals (airside) is quite good for spotting, as there are loads of floor-to-ceiling windows. Photography is a different matter though, as the majority of those windows have a sheet of wire-mesh screen on the outside, acting as an extra layer of protection against the Texas sun. The only exception seems to be those windows that are towards the north (i.e. facing N, NW, or NE).

If you're flying AA, you can stay airside and have access to terminals A, B, and C. Although terminal B is on the west side of the airport, there is an air-conditioned overhead walkway that links it with A.

Incidentally, DFW is where I'll be heading in two weeks time, and will be staying for 2 weeks. What date will you be at DFW?

I'll be in the FW area too from Nov 20 and Dec 2, unfortunately I probably won't be at the airport at all since I'm not really into airliners. Anyone know where I can find some nice helicopters to shoot?

What is their reaction against registration spotters? I imagine they are less tolerant against photographers than people just writing down the regs?

Andy- none within walking distance, catch a cab and you have a bunch of spots to go to. Feel free to email me, and I will give you my cell phone # for more specific directions.. Sorry I won't be in DFW until T-giving. Maybe next time!

Andy, that sounds like the perfect job!

With 8 hours, you'd probably do well at Founders PLaza though it depends on the weather & traffic pattern. I do know that DFW is a simply massive place from one side to the other. You definitely dont want to walk!

Founders is too common.. Those are the DFW trademark pics, but if thats what you want.

"Founder’s Plaza is located at 2829 30th Street (Carbon Rd.) and is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to midnight. To visit Founders Plaza, enter DFW Airport from the south (Hwy 183), exit to the right on Airfield Drive before you reach the entry plazas. Turn right and continue on Airfield Drive past the Administration Building. Turn left on 30th Street (Carbon Rd.) and continue until you reach Founder's Plaza on the right"

Hi Andy
I took some last December from the AA international terminal, I didn't get the best of results because of the sun informs of me (It was early in the morning) I guess if you hang around that area in the afternoon some good opportunities are available.
Part of the terminal is close to the runway
