How do you guys get such good close ups of planes sometimes? Silly question, but to the point.

Getting closeups means getting close. That, of course, attracts the attention of the authorities and that is a hassle. But I'm willing to put up with that because I love this hobby.

It comes down to location and equipment...

SAN has a place where you can catch them close to the fence, and along with a decent lens, you can get up close and personal. (not my favorite type of shot, but I like the copilots expression...)

basically getting up close and using a super zoom lens should do the trick..
