I have been to IAD several times and wondered where would be a good place to spot aircraft. I have heard of people spotting from the top of the daily garage. Is it really a good place?

Yes. For spotting go to the top of the daily parking garage. If you do search in Civil aviation forum you will find few topics about spotting areas at IAD.

Are you allowed to take pictures in the terminal at IAD while you are waiting for your connection flight?

I plan on going to IAD to do some spotting and perhaps see the new museam a day or so after Xmas. Now since I have a car and money, I am willing to drive and park and pay at the same time while spending til nightfall at Dulles. If anyone interested, give me a holla.

Rafal,

Sounds good, it finally I got out and shoot at IAD. Last time I shot at IAD was like 4 years ago. I'll email you and let you know what's going on later this week.

Kevin

PS. I'm gonna try to get Stephen Dobbins, perhaps hopefully some some DC local spotters there and maybe my friend from Lynchburg, VA will be able to be there too.

Stas,

Just wait til Friday afternoon and come spotting at IAD with myself, rafal, and probably several other people at the Udvar Hazy parking lot. Now I better get my monies worth paying $12 for parking and hopefully no cops or rent a cops approach me in the parking lot. If they do, I better get a refund or let the patrol pay for me or just go to the museam check it out for 5 minutes and walk back. I've got some tricks to play if that happens. Apparently, you have you pay first before you get into the parking lot. :-(

If its the one that landed at dulles in 2000,that ment it was the one i once saw flying over my school back in elementery. Ill do some more spotting that day, I just wish my only camera had a more than 2x zoom.

The new Air and Space museum at IAD is awesome! As far as the tower goes, it provides a good spotting location. The only problem that I had shooting pics was finger prints and reflections on the window. As far as the museum goes, it is really cool. They have a great selection of aircraft.

Rafal, I should be at the Udvar Hazy Center at 10:30am tomorrow. Probably gonna check out the museam for an hour or two and do some spotting in the lot. I'll probably be with 2 other spotters, too and look out for a black 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport in the lot, with Virginia license plates...see it, it's mine..touch it, you die. j/k. I have my M-16 in the back if I'm on call for military duty status at IAD for sercurity.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

AA777, the after Xmas sale can wait. Tomorrow will be an awesome day at Dulles. Besides, EVERYONE is going back to the mall to exchange/return their Xmas gifts. If you see 3 wierd guys with cameras, that's probably us.

Regards,

Kevin

PS. I noticed you're from Univ. of Maryland. Do you perhaps know a girl name Sarah Pohl? I am not sure what she is majoring but I know she's one of the best violinist I know. I went to high school with her.
