AIRLINERS.NET CREW HEAD SCREENER
Holiday Greetings Everyone!
Well, I guess the answer to the question in the header has been answered. Captain Aleksandrov sent me the email below stating that the person in question was his daughter. And as you read on, you will see that this day was a very special one for him. I was only to happy that fate brought us together, and now he has a unique photo to remember it by.
Paul,
What a surprise your photo produced on me.
I am the captain of this flight and behind my seat is my daughter, and it
is my last flight from Los Angeles as I will be retiring after 32 years of
flying and over 20k hours behind the controls of airplanes. Also her last
time being the daughter of the captain… and being able to enjoy some of the
most fantastic views, as seen from the cockpit.
I am very grateful to you for this great moment you captured, a very nice
gift.
Mihail

Hi Gary,
I know you were only kidding..... And I'm sure the captain will forgive me for calling his daughter a little boy.

Damn, just when you think that a photo you've taken might get you a free flight deck trip to Brasil sometime, you find out that the guy is retiring! Nice pic though, and a great story!

In Captain Aleksandrov latest email to me he was kind enough to send me a few photos from that memorable day. Below you will find several shots including one of him in the drivers seat along with his two children. And that includes his lovely daughter in the middle. As you can see I was 100% wrong in calling her a young boy, she is anything but that! But from that distance, it was extremely hard to determine who was in the jumpseat. But now that I have seen this shot of her, I can see a resemblance, can you?? Also, in my photo you can see her holding a camera, that she used to take some shots on took off.
I have also included one shot that his daughter took as they were about to WHIZZ by the Imperial Hill. You can see it just to the right of the large hanger, in the upper left quadrant of the shot.
And in the final shot we are looking over the shoulder of Captain Aleksandrov, as he is about to land in Rio for his last time as a Varig captain.
Finally: I would like to thank Captain Aleksandrov for all the kind and informative emails he has sent me, and giving me permission to post these shots. I know that you will never get flying out of your blood Mihail, but you can always visit this great photo site to bring back the memories!
A long and happy retirement Mihail, from me, and I'm sure all your friends at the A. net!

Hi William,
I'll be sending him an 8X12 of it. I have a D30 (2180X1440) that works well for that size of print....

I am posting the text of my message below, as it got cut off in the remark field that included the pictures above. Does anyone have a clue as to why??

Very interesting story Paul! Enjoyed your tremendous MD-11 close up, a beautiful airplane with some very lovely passenger in the jumpseat.
I heard somewhat Varig is considering terminate their LAX service as closing the flights to and from Japan?? Thats really bad news as MD-11 is dieing in LAX with Swiss and Delta MD-11s gone.
Also I think Varig is one of the airline still able to get a jumpseat by pure luck..I scored one on their B767-300/ER into Lima from Sao Paulo in July, unforunatly most photo turned out overexposed so none are here...

Yes Sam, it's a great human interest story, to say the least! And isn't funny how fate brings us together, and makes the world a little bit smaller of a place.
Also, it's soooooo sad that the MD-11 is disappearing from the seen here at LAX. Aesthetically, I find the MD-11 very pleasing to the eye and will miss them.
