Is this viewing park still open? is it REALLY that close to the planes?? It looks like those people are about to get a haircut courtesy of the 747 wing!

Are there other great photos taken from this spot?

Since that plane must be on a taxiway, then when it is on the runway a little further away then that must be great for photos, right?

Just now I believe UTA_Flyinghigh, else you can fly Aer Lingus to MAN for pretty cheap.
Find some pictures of MAN from the 28th May 2003 and see what the viewing park was like then  Big grin
Even the police are running a scheme which involves the photographers and spotters reporting any weird things going on to them. All in all, MAN is a great airport for photography and spotters.

Do you get good light conditions at the parking´s terrace?

If i do not remember bad, there are other good spots at MAN, and that makes the airport a very nice one.

P.S.: MAN a great airport, MAD not so, but we have Beckham now.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

The AVP as Tobi says is still open, and is a credit to the folks at MAN (both the authorities and the Manchester Aviation Society)

It has great facilities such as raised 'Bump's from which you can see over the fence, toilets, an enthusiasts shop, refreshments, plus the added bonus of having the last ever Avro RJ on hand to enjoy and soon will have a Hangar to contain their Concorde.  Wow!

As with anything in life, nothing is ever perfect. My only critique (and I have to concede there's not a lot they could do about it) is that it is set on the North side of the runways facing south so there's going to be a lot of backlighting.

As mentioned, there are other spots around the airport and of course there's the excellent relations between the enthusiasts and the security folks.

Here's one of my shots from the AVP:

Bruce,

It looks close mate but really there's plenty of clearance! No point of the wing ever extends over the fence (as long as the pilot can steer his aircraft!)  Wink/being sarcastic

Last time I went there was on the 22nd of October (the day Concorde came to visit.) I've been before - and I have to say if you want to get close to the aircraft, go to MAN. It is brilliant, I took some GREAT photos (but still didn't get any accepted onto a.net  Smile/happy/getting dizzy) I will definitely be going back soon. Here is a site about it:

I could not agree more with you, I wish i lived closer because the day i took those shots in summer it was at least 85 degrees!

The viewing park caters for all your needs on a day like that.

I cant wait for a re-visit.

A question :- Now the concorde sits up that way , does it in anyway get in the way of photographing any of the traffic, i hope it doesnt impede!

Ryan,

Concorde was only placed on display there temporarily over the week of 100 years of flight. Its due to go on display on a purpose built runway area near where the 146 currently sits in the viewing park.

Since everyone else is posting pictures...

I have been told that the grass mound is so close to the planes, that you get warmed by a fresh battering of jet blast which is ideal when its freezing out Big grin

Wow, this is really close. I would have to buy a new lens to take photos from this spot. If it's neither Innsbruck nor Vienna it must be either Graz or Salzburg (more likely) ... Am I right? Big grin

Guys, guys, guys  Sad

What's all this about going to the view park.  Nuts

Its fine for getting close, but its not much good for photographers - well, at least not in comparison to the banks on the south side.

Please go to MAN, its a great place, but for photographers with a little bit more work other public locations around the airport will deliver far better results than the view park will.
