Thanks to the conspiration of various parties (707cmf, Boieng747-400, Manzoori, Ckw, etc...), I have just purchased a second-hand Canon EOS D30 for 800 Euro (still cheaper than my car ! yes !).
Let's hope it gives me good results, and that 707cmf doesn't steal it when it arrives in his mailbox.

Hint : I live in Eire. The seller is in France. Site only ships to France.

Guess who will be using it first, much to my dismay  Sad

A used D30 for 800 Euros, which works out to $1025 in US dollars (using todays exchange rate).

That seems like a lot of coin for a 3 year old, used camera?

A quick check of eBay shows lots of D60s changing hands for right around 1k US, but perhaps there is more to this story? Did the camera come with a lens? Extra battery? Warranty? CF card(s)?

Did you prefer the D30 over other Canon DSLR's?

Er, royal, you are lucky to live in the US of A.
Over here in Elbonia, a 300D costs 1200 Euro (1500 USD) body only.
The G5 that I bought in December cost me 750 Euro new.
if I were living in SEA, I would have gone ofr the 10D.
Being in Europe and on a limited budget, this was my best option.

Will,

I did a quick check on B&H for the 10D and 300D new:

10D: $1499 + $66.50 (ups express) = $1565.50 = €1223 + irish/french taxes

300D: $899 + $55.50 = $954.50 = €745 + irish/french taxes.

Very true Tim, but I borrowed a 300D on Sunday and I was very disappointed with the finish/build qulity and overall appearance as compared to the D30/D60/10D's. I can accept the silver plasticky finish on my 400 Euro EOS 300V, not on a (even at) 900 Euro 300D.
745 Euro + 19.6 VAT = 891 Euro.
BTW B&H were out of stock on the 300D as of this morning.

Here we go again...  Insane

I think I'll send an email to Johan telling him to get a new server, all those photos and plugs of Will are gonna take up a lot of webspace... Might as well get some new moderators and screeners whilst we're at it.  Nuts

Cheers,
Tim

Is there a purpose to the list Rez? Is it just to keep all the users informed? Personally, I don't see the need for it in an open forum. I would recommend it is taken offline via email.

There are those of us that don't use, or have any desire to own the camera, or particularly care who does. Just an opinion, don't get upset.

Is there a purpose to the list?

Not in any life changing way no. My take on it is that it's just there for anyone who might be considering getting a D30 to be able to see who shoots with it, what lenses they use and what results they get. Nothing more. Taking it to e-mail will somewhat limit it's visibility I'm sure you can see?

That's cool!  Smokin cool You all have fine cameras I'm sure and have no interest in the D30. I can see that, I can respect that and I can see how you can avoid these nuisance D30 threads!  Wink/being sarcastic Just don't read them!  Big thumbs up

Cheers!

Is there a purpose to the list Rez?

Its a great idea... That way people that might be interested in the camera can search the DB for photos taken with that camera...

Whats the big deal anyhow there, chief? You want some cheese with that whine? Well get the FSA's right on that for ya.

You'll hev to wait until next month to see the results as I shall (les eaux) only be able to take delivery of the aforementioned camera during my holidays in Elbonia.
And anyways my aim is to get to 1000 without the DSLR advantage Big grin
