Hi All,

In May I will mostlikely travel via AMS for the first time. I will have maximum 2-3hrs layover. Where I can take pictures in the terminal? I know that there is an observation deck, but I don't know if I want to go thru customs (I don't want to miss my connecting flight).
Is there any place to take side-on pictures of the airplanes?

Thanks,
Rafal

Rafal,
There's no airside terrace... You can take pictures all over the place though. Big (single glass) windows at every gate. Walking to the end of the C, E, F or G pier will give you a nice view of the taxiways.
I've seen double glass (2 windows with a 10ft space in between) at other airports a lot, but we don't have that here. Big grin
So I'm sure you can take some ok shots (you're facing North aswell  Smile)
Cheers,
Eduard

Hi Rafal

I was at AMS a few weeks ago and managed to get a seat at the end of pier D.

The view from here is good but aircraft taxy very close so you will need a wide angle to get the bigger stuff in. Stuff that taxy on the outer taxyway can be photographed with no problems.

Beware of window reflections.

Cheers

If your connecting flight uses pier D, that is indeed a nice place. If it doesn't, it's bloody long walk to the end though.  Smile (Don't you agree Gary?  Smile)
Anyway, as the whole terminal is a half-circle shaped with the piers as 'fingers', any pier will give you a decent view.
Have fun!
E

Gary, the best way to beat the glass reflection is to put the lens hood on and keep it right against the window. I've learned it the hard way (having pictures of the airplanes with the toilet signs on ). The smallest lens I have is 35-80mm which is around 50-95mm with my Nikon D100. Is it small enough?

Eduard, I don't mind walking as long as I can take decent pictures. I will have 3.5hrs and 1.5hrs before connecting to my other flights.

Jwenting, you are scaring me...  Smile

Thanks guys,
Rafal

It is double glass, but not spaced, just isolation glass.
