Hi there 300D shooters.

I was wondering what settings or parameters do you use. In what mode do you shoot?

I mostly use the continuous shooting or the "P" mode to play with the ISO settings depending on the light (mostly at dusk).

I like to shoot in M, usually at 100 ISO and Manual Focus set on the lens, unless the Depth-of-Field is constant, i.e. no foreground objects mixing in with background.

I use TV or AV typically. 'P' mode is great in most conditions, but in difficult light it can occasionally favour the aperture, giving a slow shutter which isn't easy if you're without a tripod.

One of the screeners wrote a good guide here about consumer lenses and avoiding wide apertures (they can become quite soft), and AV mode allows you to control this (light permitting!).

It takes a big man to admit they are wrong, and I am not a big man.

For action shots and day shots, P mode, ISO set at 100 or 200, never mode.

For night shots, M mode on a tripod or stabilised.

Almost always AF.

For other than aviation shots, I use a lot the 'landscape mode' which has quite good results and a very good DOF

Cheers,

Hello,
I mostly use P or Av Mode. Single Frame Shooting for static aircraft, on pushback or taxiing, and continuous shooting for approaching shots or aircraft gaining speed and rotating...
Usually ISO 100.

Cheers
Alex

Slightly off topic, but what exactly is the difference between P mode and automatic? Is it only that in P, you can change ISO? I usually shoot in Av or Tv, depending on conditions, and always try to stick to ISO 100. When using Tv, I try to set the time fast enough not to get blur, but still slow enough for a good aperture value (around 8).

I guess that's what happens in the end, you start thinking about the beginning.

'P' doesn't use flash automatically. It just gives you a combination of shutterspeed and aperture. The 'little green square'-automatic mode pops out the flash automatically when it gets too dark... Not sure if it also messes witht the ISO...
