Hi all,
I have recently started uploading my photos to a.net, since I got my 300D, and am starting my little collection  Big grin. I was just curious: All you guys who have had requests for photos to be used for pamphlets, websites, etc. After how many (roughly) photos in the database did you get your first request? Have they been coming in regularly? How much money have you made on that? (If you don't mind sharing  Smile). Thanks!

Sebastian

I guess that's what happens in the end, you start thinking about the beginning.

You got to get lucky in fact.

All of the request I got went dead end because each time it was commercial, the requester did not want to pay for it.

However a few non profit organisation asked for a picture, in those case, I don't charge them.

In any case, keep in mind this is a hobby. If you are not professionnal, don't really expect to make money from this.

LOL  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I now have 42 images here, and I got a request of Premium Cards ltd after about 3 or 4 weeks. They wanted to print 3 images of me. Offered me $20 per image  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

It all depends which images you shoot... and which the others want to have...

I also got a request of SAS Virtual, which wanted to use one of my images on their frontpage. I gave them permission without wanting any money.

It is a hobby, money is just the nice addition!

regards, Florian

I agree about the money thing. I just thought it might be interesting to hear people's stories, that's all.

I was close to sell a photo a couple of months ago. Well I don't know about close.. Anyways, I received an e-mail from a journalist at the biggest financial newspaper in Sweden. He asked me if I had information about the aircraft (bizjet) as he was thinking of writing an article about the company that owned it. (He had seen my photo on A.net).
I replied and said that I did not know anything about the company or the aircraft mentioned. So me being 'close' was when he asked me if he could use my photo in the article.

I guess the article never got published - he did not get back to me.  Sad

This was purely luck and had nothing to do with me being a great photographer. Because I am not. Nonetheless, it was still fun to have the chance of maybe selling a photo.

BTW, the photo was my 3rd here on A.net.

I have yet to sell my first (aviation)photo.
But a few week ago I was asked by a guy at Arlanda who wanted to use a photo in a powerpoint presentation, so tomorrow I'll get a ramp-tour  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I think that is pretty fare considering that he wont make any money out of it.

Hello,
I have sold my first picture when I had like 15 pictures in the database, but that came quite surprisingly...I didn't even think of selling a photo before.
Just yesterday I got another request, let's see how this one will turn out.

Cheers
Alex

I just sold a pic to http://www.airlines.org. My photo and those of some fellow A.netters will be used for their new website. (the current site is still the old one).
Just days ago I allowed a writer of an aviation novel to use one of my pictures in his book ('Captain II') and on the website. In return I'll get a signed copy of the book. Quite a nice deal.  Smile
In the past I also sold some stuff for peoples' private use (to put on their walls). Those I sold for just a little over the cost price...

Oops... Photos until first request? About 45. The first photo I sold was this one, to a DHL pilot's wife (as a b-day present  Smile):

I get requests fairly often, from one to several a month. There are the usual freebie requests which are turned down. I've made as little as $15 bucks to over $150 dollars per image.
