I flew from Manchester (UK) on Good Friday (April 9th) and my friend, Danny Hill who took me there, kindly photographed me departing. This was somehting I had wanted for a while, the ability to look at the aircraft you were on, at that time!

As I sit here in the USA browsing a.net I find a photo of of the aircraft I was on, this time from the oposing side of the fence. So, I was lucky enough to get 2 photos, and each both sides of the fence.

Did you arrive at IAD? I grabbed the above shot at the Udvar-Hazy Museum. A must see before you head home. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Go3Team - I do intend to visit the museum, its one of the main reasons am here. Are photos like that achievable each day? The weather is looking most promising for Tueasday, so will try it then. Any places to look out for, for such photos as yours?

Mia777 - Yes, seems both parties were getting the same aircraft. I too would have been there myself, if I were not on it  Smile

having photos of you tkaing off etc... really does complete the album when you get back. All I need now is for someone to get me landing :p And if there are any takers, departing IAD too Big grin

Thanks,

From the parking lot of the museum, depending on time of day, most of the international flights can be seen well from the car park - if you're in the car park, you can't miss them. They normally use 1R for the international arrivals. The roadway leading into the car park, would be better, although there is no parking allowed on the roadway, as for spotting I really don't know. Parking fee at Udvar-Hazy:$12
For 1L arrivals the best spot would probably be another car park at the airport. There is a new parking garage located near the air freight warehouses, and you can see fairly well, although all my shots from this location were rejected. Parking fee at the parking deck: $5 an hour with a maximum of $15 a day.

Also, depending on how much free time you have, great spotting can be had at Gravelly Point right near DCA. Although you won't have the heavies like IAD, its a pretty nice place to go to.

Go3Team - I am staying just 2miles from the airport, and the hotel offers free shuttle runs to the airport, from there I hope to get a ride to the museum, as I dont have a car rented.

Does the use of vieiwng from the gagrage still present itself as a good place, without a car? Also, the obvious question of secuirty. Will I have any problems, or will I find myself being questioned for my reasons for being there, despite me carrying my camera and lenses?

Thanks

When I was there, a "security" truck drove by and did'nt do anything. I think from the terminal, you can get a bus ride to the parking deck. Then from there just go up the stairs to the top. The top was closed off to cars, they had a sign saying it was due to the season. We were parked on the second level from the top, and they had an open area that was also closed off to cars. I ventured out and took a few shots (the BA and SAS photo above) and when I was walking back to the car, was when security drove by.

When are you going home? I might try to head up there this weekend to do some shooting, as long as it is sunny out.
