Arrrrghhhh, they (TSA at FLL) have done it again! Pasted below is a letter from the FLL Acting Director to a buddy of mine. FLL must be chock full of terrorists because air shows are operating without restrictions all over the country, usually with only yellow police tape separating the crowds from the performing aircraft and nothing to keep folks from walking around and climbing on static display aircraft. FLL has a tall chain link fence with barbed wire on top and that's not enough? FLL could put a cop or two in a car nearby to ensure safety from the moms and dads and kiddies watching aircraft taxi out and come back for landing. The insanity continues.....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you for your recent e-mail to Commissioner Parrish asking if the Ron Gardner Memorial Site "viewing area" will be open to the public for the 2004 Air & Sea Show.
Please be advised that at the direction of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the viewing area will be closed from April 28 through May 3, 2004, for security reasons.
We realize that the viewing area provides recreational enjoyment for aviation enthusiasts; however, during events such as this we rely on federal and local recommendations as they affect the safety and security of all our residents and visitors.
Thank you for your continued interest in this matter.
Sincerely,
Tom Jargiello
Acting Director of Aviation
They are a bunch of harebrained dimwits...was it open for last year's A&S show?
Yes, Because what is going on with FLL viewing area is closed and why? It is no terror threat either at FLL. I knew it about all of those information. It should make re-open again on Monday May 3, 2004.
Regards!
No, it was not open last year, even though Orange alert level was lifted a couple of weeks prior, and even though other air shows were operating as normal. They kept the view park closed until after all the air show performers departed FLL.
My buddy now has Commissioner Lori Parrish seeking to obtain the TSA directive to the airport to close the view park.
Re-opening it after the air show is nice but closing it during the air show deprives hundreds of folks from seeing and photographing aircraft that only come down here once a year or once every two years in the case of the Blue Angels. There are a lot of folks who don't care to put up with all the traffic, parking and crowd hassles to view the air show on the beach.
Closing the view park is nothing but a crock of $#@*.
I don't want anymore with the viewing area not closed either and it should to keep open all of the times and those are no problems with the terror threat either.
Yes, there were periods in 2002 when it was open (non Orange Alert times) and when you were there but it was also closed during Orange Alert periods in 2002. Greg asked if it was open for last year's Air Show which was 2003 and it was not open.
I should have stated that it was opened for the 2002 airshow as I was there. Sorry for not being clear.
It would seem that it would have been closed for the 2002 airshow. The 2002 airshow was the first after 9-11-01. Makes you wonder who makes these decisions and what they base their decisions on.
In FLL, this is one of those things the world may never know...I was at the view park in 2002 as well when the Angels landed after their display...
Well today, they closed the garage before the Blues departed, however, it's only Level 7, I believe 6 and below are still open, but the lot is pretty full. By the way- was anyone here on Airliners.net spotting today at FLL on the garage?
