Hi everyone,
what's the spotting potential like at Zurich?
I was thinking of spending a day there but will be on foot so was thinking of staying around the terminal.
I heard that there is a good platform at the airport. Is this still open post 9/11?
Also what do you think would be the best / most entertaining way of getting there from MAN?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Well that's definitely on my "To go to" list . I want to travel the world now I've got my own passport. Fares are a bit high though. Can't find anyone that goes direct to ZRH from EMA. MAN would be my second choice but BA and LX fares are pretty high. BA are even charging £160 from LHR!

Rolf s picture os SIA 747 is NOT from the parking deck and btw ist NOT parckingdeck nr 5, its either nr 1 or 3 ..... , and you definetely dont want to go to Dock E because of the light. If u r by foot be aware that from 12:30 the sun is against you on the T2 observation deck ...

Regarding zoom range: I only have a 75-300mm and a 28-200 lens. Both serve me well, although, with up to 400mm you would get more angles, albeit only marginal.
As Robin said, avoid Dock Midfield and the terrace on Terminal 2 (formerly known as Terminal B) after 12.00 (sun against you) .
Cheers
Gerardo
PS - Robin: will you be there next sat morning?

Well guys,
Thanks for all your advice. I decided that I would try a day out at ZRH after all.
Managed to get some great flights and a good deal on a hotel.

Hi Montague,
Thanks for the tip, but I managed to get the Renaissance (which is 5 star) for only GBP 55.
While we are on the subject of spotting at European airports, does anyone know whether I will have time to get to the spotting terrace at Frankfurt?
I Arrive at terminal 1 and have around 2hrs to spare.
Any advice and I would be grateful.

Speaking of ZRH accomodations ... has anyone tried the Allegra Hotel at Kloten? You must have great views from the upper floors. In this photo you can see it under engine No. 1.

Hi all
I would recommend the Fly Away Hotel in Kloten.
Stayed there twice, nice rooms, good food and nice looking lady reception staff
Free bus to and from the terminal. I 've also got the name and telephone number of a taxi service who, if required, will drop you off wherever you are around the perimeter of the airport and will pick you up wherever again at what time you agree. Really nice guy also. Taxi's are expensive though so plan into your budget.

@Granite
Why didn't you visit me? Working on the opposite street of the Fly Away hotel.
Simle at the world and the world smiles back :)
25 Qantas744: I second Ben Pritchard's recommendation, the free bus is great and it is perfect for being close to the heliport-there is also a nearby train station
