Hi there,
On many occasions when I go to LHR to shoot we see a mixture of BA/SAA 744's 777's etc being moved across the famous perimeter road! I have taken pics everytime but never been successful. Until today when I got my first LHR road crossing uploaded

plugging your own photos is weak. Its cool if you are telling a story, or making a point, but trolling for hits is the sauce

A self plug maybe. But to those of us who are Heathrow regulars, this is something that can be seen several times a day; those who haven't done the 'Row might just want to see this spectacle? Personally, I haven't shot anything there for a while, but it's a prime spot for detail shots, if that's your thing. It also shows just how close you can still get to the aircraft at LHR, where most of the rest of the airport is either strictly off limits or extremely inaccessible.... It's a decent enough shot too, just perhaps not everyone's cup of tea.
Spencer.

Shot's great, and I wouldn't have seen it without this thread!

I'd like to point out that this was not an attempt to gain hits, but to share this picture with everyone who might appreciate it more than some of you.
This is also the first picture of a South African B744 crossing that road in the database at LHR. So in a way it hasn't been done before.
Why is it you all blow up at this? I have done nothing wrong. Jesus.

Lighten up guys. It's just a bit of harmless sharing, and ultimately, it is why we're all here, whether you want to admit it or not.

LOL, agree with you, Robin! Not always, but quite often the nicer pictures (read: in my opinion) get less views than the popular ones. For instance, I like Hisham's brilliant composition of the B737 much better than the picture of another bloody B747 in LHR. Anyway, is that a nose close-up?
Don't misunderstand me, didn't mean to be offensive

747's at LHR are popular because that is what the viewing public wants. Not a damn thing you can do about it. There are many, many good shots of other aircraft here (Gary Watt's Choppers, Derek Pedley & Colin Work's GA pictures) and they arguably do not get the attention they deserve.
As I remarked to Justin in person the other day, this is very much an airliner site. Other aircraft simply don't hit that well.
I happen to like the picture (I was there on the day, and have a similar image) and I don't have the slightest problem with people plugging. If someone wants to start a thread showing 100 thumbnails, more power to him. I don't have to read it, and I don't have to click on them.

Gary,
As I see it it's not the image this discussion is really debating it's the fact that a whole new post was made by the photographer just to show it off.
I saw the image when I did a UK-England search as will many of other people so I think a lot of people don't like a post made about it.

I don't agree with all the 'self plugs' we get every day whether it be from the photographer or his mates but Justin seems to have been singled out as the bad guy and the only culprit for some inexplicable reason which I don't understand and which I feel is wrong!
In my opinion he is nowhere near as bad as many who rubbish this forum with constant plugs of either their own work or that of close buddies at EVERY possible opportunity

The more you plug or let someone plug for you the more you get singled out. IMHO this plugging sh/( should stop and this forum should go back to its roots. Discussing about photography issues. Oh and even screeners are allowed to make comments from time to time.

Derek, Peter...
Personally I don't see nothing wrong with plugging pictures to the discussions, but of course it should make some sense. For getting more hits, I think the plugging should be stopped. Also threats like "post your most popular pics here"... I dunno, that goes to the same category with the posts in the civil aviation, e.g. "a/c type you have flown most".
But for asking opinions or showing an example when somebody is asking for spotting help on an airport, photo plugs are ok.
Why was the plug-thing started in first place? Or why was "views" thing implemented with the pictures? Why why why...
