Hi everyone,

I will be in Australia from mid Oct till mid Nov,

I will be in SYD, OOL, CNS, AYQ, ASP, MEL for certain as I have to take a plane in all of these airports.
Can you help me by telling me where are the places to spot at these airports, inside the terminal? On a terrace? By car around the airport?
Everything is welcome as it will be my first time downunder and I don't know any of the airports.

Well here's a great website for Sydney spotters:

As the menu says, they have guides to all sorts of things including radio frequencies, runway info, Navaids, sydney ATC, airlines, and most importantly, a viewing spots guide. There's also a message board. Quite a few A.net members contribute there.

There are a few good places for spotting at SYD but one of the best is right under the 16R approach path just outside the perimeter fence (if the wind is right). There, you'll get 747s screaming right over your head on finals. Pretty fun...  Big thumbs up

Long live the A330!

There are two other sites I know of:

http://www.rwy34.com This site is for Melbourne.

http://www.gate52.com This site has information on all the major Australian airports.

Oh, and by the way, I've just come back from ASP/AYQ. There isn't all that much going on at those airports in terms of spotting, and nothing larger than a 737 (although I did see an F/A-18 at Alice).

However, if you are departing from AYQ on rwy 13 you should be sure to get a window seat on the starboard side of the plane. You'll get some great views of Uluru and the Olgas as you climb out. Check out my photos in this thread to see what I mean: http://www.airliners.net/discussions/aviation_photography/read.main/138647/

You can probably also get good views from the port side of the aircraft while landing on rwy 31...

Hope you enjoy your trip!

Long live the A330!

Sam Chui also has a good site that I used for spotting locations during my recent vacation back to Sydney.

You guys in Sydney are so lucky having good access to the airport. I must move back to Sydney at once.  Smile
