AIRLINERS.NET CREW PHOTO SCREENER
Well, it may not be the best picture that has ever graced this website, but for me it is the one that I am most proud of.
Last week I went to Shanghai airport with my five year old son, Julian and we decided to take some photos. I was armed with a Nikon D70 and he got to use a Fuji S1 Pro. At first, he was having trouble centering the aircraft in the frame, cutting off noses and tails all over the place. I explained what he had to do and he corrected this, but the result was horizons that were all over the place. Finally once this got explained, he got the hang of it and produced the following:
Now when I got home I of course needed to rotate approx 1 degree and then crop "slightly" but basically for a five year old, I think he did a fine job....

Andy,
You ain't never gonna see me in Shanghai now-too much competition.....on the other hand it's about time someone with Canon gear showed you two how to take pictures with a real camera

Would be nice if he was the youngest. I was really surprised at how quickly he picked it up. Of course, there were a few tense moments, where Dad started to get irritated at his lack of "centering"... but after an hour or so, it all paid off.
Now he is asking when he can go next to take more pics......finally, the awayday pass which I have to keep asking for from the Prime Minister is now an easy sell!
Matt: Canon, nah, my son won;t ever find out about that

I have two nieces and I am proud of everything they learn! I understand You, and I cannot wait until I have kids picking up my hobbies. Especially in music, but also photography. I really get what You are feeling and I can tell, it is a great feeling!
Keep on, Julian.
BTW, does he already know about screeners and hot difficult it is to get past them?

Andrew, that's really great! You have indeed reason enough to be the proudest father on earth. And Julian..that's a great pic. I expect more to follow.
(My nine months old daughter still doesn't really understand what the front and the backend of the camera is. But she loves planes anyway)

Andy,
Congratulations, when we met at INN in winter, you told me your son will get into aviation photography sooner or later.
Well, you did a good job as a teacher, and he is a good student too

Andy,
Great stuff and also good to see you where wise enough to let your son use the S1 and not the Nikon, did he say he didnt want the Nikon or was that your idea?

I have an almost 2 year-old grandson. I've already got him pointing to the sky whenever a jet flies over. Soon, he and I will be making day-trips to the airport and I'll be instructing him in the fine art of getting rejections.

I'm just thinking about all those poor experts with their expensive equipment, lots of photographing experience and hours of photographing lessons whining about getting nothing but rejections at a.net
@Andy: Are you not afraid that he will ask for a Nikon D2H & VR70-200/2.8 for christmas ?

Andy,
congrats to your son and also to you. It is certainly not easy to teach a young kid how to use a camera properly, so I can perfectly understand your pride when effort and patience paid off! Looking forward to see more photos from the Hunt family
