It will be fine for "walk around town" snapshots. I would not buy it for anything other then that, though you should be able to get a few in here with it.

I have the same model camera and it isn't too good for aviation photography. It has a time delay so you must hit the button and pan with the aircraft if your looking to get a landing shot, etc. It's also a 3 mega pixel cam, so getting a shot in here isn't easy. I'd say try and look for another cam. Best of luck finding something!

Save your money !!!!. Save up the extra cash and buy a S7000. If you want to see what you can do with the S7000 check out my photo's on A.Net. (search/photographer/simon curtis).
For what its worth i currently have 125 photo's on the site within 4 months of starting photography. So if anyone tells you "You must have a DSLR to get on A.Net" its complete RUBBISH !!!!!
My main piece of advise is get some good post process software like Adobe photoshop 7. If monies a problem get a lower version. If you want photo's on A.Net 99% of the time they will need the help of photoshop !! Also ask for help on this forum. Many people will help you in your goal (as they did with me at the start)
Good luck
Simon

I don't recommend you the S5000.
One month ago I was in the same situation.
I hesitate for the S5000, the minolta Z2 and finally the canon S1 IS.
for the S5000, I see many peoples talking about the high compression jpg. Really great look but bad compression and the mode for the 6 MP is horrible.
The look of the minolta Z2 is ugly. And . No more for me.
I decide to buy the Canon S1 IS for an extra 100$ difference of the S5000.
I have it for about 3 weeks now and I am so happy with it.
I finally enter the family of A.net this week with first 2 shots accepted...YES...
the image stabilizer is awesome... I buy the conversion lens adapter with and he look very nice....

Don't buy the S5000, it is an utter piece of crap.
Luckily I found some fool who bought it from me 3 months later.
I still managed to get some pictures on a.net with it, but with extensive reworking :

Try not to import from america as you will get skinned for import tax when its delivered
Is Texas a seperate country now? I can recommend the Olympus C765UZ, currently $425 from amazon.com. 10 x optical zoom, 4 megapixel. Downside is the measly 16mb xd card supplied with it, but flash memory is dropping in price at the moment.
