I usually take photos of planes touching down with my F717. However, my photos are not really sharp. I believe that maybe I'm using the wrong settings. First of all, for planes touching down and moving fast, is the best setting Aperature F8 and shutter speed 1/500? If so, should I then use the Manual Mode of the F717 so I can manually adjust both the shutter speed and the aperature?
Furthermore, what exactly causes motion blurr and how do I prevent it? I have been told by an expert that my photos are not that sharp supposedly due to motion blurr. However, I'm quiet certain that I shake my camera when taking pictures.

1/500 is fast but you may still find that produces inconsistent results - see if you can get the shutter between 1/750 and 1/1000, whilst maintaining F8 aperture. Just keep practicing, and you'll do okay. I don't know what the weight of the 717 is, but having a fairly hefty camera actually helps keep things steady.
