Now that we have the dates set for the NYC meet to be 10/30 and the 31st we should have a list of the people who are attending, and furthermore other details of flights, meeting places, and a mini schedule

So of course you can count me in for the 2 days. Now who else?

Count me in. I'll be flying in from Long Island in my Toyota. I might even bring Futterman if his parents let him out of his cage.

You're the organizer of the event...YOU tell US what the schedule will look like. Big grin

Here's my two cents... We will likely have the same problem that we recently had at the big DCA/IAD meeting with trying to do two airports in one day. It can be done, but there will undoubtedly be people who want to see one airport more than the other. I would suggest that we spend an entire day at JFK...perhaps on Saturday, when most people are likely to be there. Then, LGA can be done on Sunday for those who are still in town. If, on the other hand, some people want to splinter off for a few hours on Saturday and visit LGA, I'm sure we could find one or two locals to take people to LGA and show them around. There's this BIG guy who thinks LGA is his airport and who knows a thing or two about good spotting locations. Big grin

I would also suggest that you plan some sort of a group dinner for Saturday night, perhaps pizza/beer (or soda, for Futterman).

I'm in no position to plan an event like this, but those are my thoughts.

Josh

No no, i cant do all this myself!I need help. Thanks for you info! And I like the 2 day event with 1 day dedicated to each airport! Prob LGA on Sat and JFK on Sun thats what I think cuz JFK has more variety on Sundays I believe!

And your other suggestion of the Dinner is perfect also! But I'd prob be having a Soda also Big grin

Ya I hope people like Phill, Joe Pries, Art Brett, Futterman and all the other BIG NY SPOTTERS can make it.!!

I think I might be on for this one. Plenty of time to plan ahead, and book arrangements. I guess the first thing to do is ask where a hotel is that might give a group rate for the evening, and who is renting a car, that way some of us poor folk can bum off other people  Big grin Hope to have a new camera by then, and looking forward to better weather!

"How will I know you guys?"

As far as I can tell, Futterman likes to spill his drinks and talk a lot.
Jakbar likes to wear his purple hat.

Thats all I can come up with right now.

As far as cost projections for the trip, I am looking at close to $700.  Wow!
$200 for the flight
$300 for the room (3 nights at the Crowne Plaza)
$180 for the rental car.

Well Go team you dont have to waste 300 on the crowne plaza when you can prob get the LGA Marriot for cheaper!!! Which is IN FRONT of LGA!!! And close to LGA. If we meet at LGA first we will most likely meet at LGA and depending on runway conditions continue from there!
LGA would be better to do the first day! And continue at JFK on Halloween!

Also since this is not peak season you can find good deals on tickets. Especially with Jetblue's low fares!!

Hopefully this is a sucess!!!

PS Your ideas are always wanted to make this a better meet!!!

Marriott is $1 more a night  Sad
Any other suggestions?

The closest Jetblue flies out of is IAD, and they don't show JFK as a destination. I was going to do US to LGA. EWR is cheaper, but its always a pain to cross the bridge.

Count me in! I'm gonna take avantage of AA's $115 r/t fare (every weekend in September-November) offer. Plus two nights ( Friday and Saturday ) of hotel. I'm looking right around $300 for everything. Not too bad. I can't wait. I talked to Futterman tonight and he said he might be up for it depending on school and such. We'll see.

that all depends on how annoying futterman is during the week before. either that, or if he picks up dunkin donuts too.

IMO, Sunday morning at JFK sucks. LGA pretty much sucks all weekend, unless you really like RJs. Big grin

Frankly, I'm sick of LGA these days, so I'm not going to be one of the volunteers to chaperone visitors who want to split off and do LGA while others are at JFK.

There is one point worth mentioning that is very important: for Howard Beach or Bayswater Park (for 31L departures, and 04 arrivals, at JFK), you will need a minimum of 300mm zoom on your camera. With the exception of Planeview Park and certain areas near the Marina, you will also need a lot of mm at LGA, especially at MacNeil Park for 22 arrivals in the morning. Check out Art Brett's website http://www.anniebees.com for lots of very helpful information regarding how much glass you'll need at each spotting location around LGA and JFK.

The likelihood that you could get away with less than 300mm zoom for an entire weekend of NYC spotting is slim to none. Futterman can attest to this.  Big thumbs up

Here's another important tip: BRING WARM CLOTHES. It can be quite chilly in the morning at the end of October. Those people who are not used to cold weather should talk to Futterman about how to dress warm (especially about what shoes/socks to wear).

Matt - You'll fly to JFK??? From Brooklyn??? Am I missing something?

Lastly, Burke...why fly for $200 when you can drive for much less (and also not have to rent a car)??? $100/night at the Crowne Plaza is not bad, although I'd be surprised if you couldn't find ANY place for less than that if you're on budget.

Futterman, Futterman, Futterman, Futterman... Who is this guy??

It's hard to say when you're going to be free. Like Matt, school gets in the way, so I'm not going to know until the last minute. Traveling plans aren't exactly hard, anyway, so I could say yes right now and it'd still be up in the air until the day of.

And Josh, I can attest to a lot more than just a bare minimum of 300mm and two pairs of socks. My weeks with you guys have got me thinking that MC said 'Drunkin Donuts' not 'Dunkin.'  Wink/being sarcastic

Bri...wait, no...

Anyone know how someone under 21 is able to check into a hotel? I was looking at the Pan American Hotel for a room but they said u have to be 21 to check in. I believe that is the rule for every hotel, isn't it? This might through off some plans.

Well the plan COULD be like this

Sat-LGA:

Meet up sometime in the morning or at noon! Check the runway assignments and then head to either Plainview, the Marina, or Herman Park, or possible the Centeral Terminal! Then we break for Lunch which could be at a diner near LGA or a few pizza pies we all order. Then possibly we could all head to JFK for the remainder of 1 day! But if the majority of the people want to stay at LGA we could always stay!

This is what I think it could be like. Maybe someone else has a better idea!
