No doubt there's more to come. Now that he's down in CLT, he'll be able to document the demise of USAir.

I'm sure Joe will be sharing more NYC material also, since I understand that he visits once per month.

Yeah, it helps a lot when you have the type of ramp access at the various airports Joe has.

Joe better get the camera going at CLT on US Airways before it's too late...

Fantastic variety in shots and an inspiration to us all, not only because of his photos but also because of his personality.

See you in FRA!

Cheers

True if you have ramp access and the connections it's not difficult to get a variety of shots like those. Now, that COPA really got my attention, what a beautiful shot that is!

Joe indeed does a fine job at the Airliners International slide auctions, but he's only following in the footsteps of Phil Glatt.

Sorry Sam and the rest of you, I have to disagree with you. I will say that Joe is a great friend of mine and an excellent photographer but when it comes to living legends, there are only a handful and only two that I care to mention here. It takes a lot more than countless a.net hits to reach that status and these two guys are Larry Smally and William T Larkins. Most of you have probably never heard of them. These two guys were founding fathers for our hobby and for that and their long time photography in the hobby, I consider them living legends. For that I do not consider Joe a living legend, although he may reach that status sometime in his life.

Stephen, just some nice words to complement Joe....

N101AA and Miamix707, even Joe have the access, I truly believe it is the photographer, not just the access. There are many photog here have the access at some airports and have photo in here from the ramp, but few catch my eyes....is the photographers eye, mind and the experience counts.

N178UA

I've been photographing for a few years myself. I'm nowhere near the elite status you guys believe yourselves to be, however I consider very few photographers that I've met and probably no aircraft photographer to be an artist or a living legend or any of those things, but thats just my opinion  Smile

oh I think I forgot to mention the time  Big grin not only the access

however I personally have enjoyed seeing the many ramp shots you've posted here (since you have had access, the time, and the opportunity to travel a lot that most don't have) and Joe's rare JFK photos as well

regards,

Mario

As Joe's cohort at the auctions, I can say that he has earned the respect of many a slide shooter over this past decade that I've known him. He's the one that thought outside the box and thus, has come up with many an angle that we "normal 50mm side on shooters" wouldn't have. He's taken this hobby in a different direction and his dedication to making the slide hobby continue is unrivaled in this country.
He may not live in NY anymore but his trips up there each month seem to be as fruitful as they ever were.
And finally, he's who I am going to try and emulate these next few years as he is one of only two people I know to continue shooting once their first child was born (here in the US), and as he put it to me at LAX this summer, his shooting has increased, not decreased since his daughter was born.

Here here Joe!

Thanks for the kind words Jeff. You are one of the first guys I met in "slide world" -back when I think you were working for TAP at EWR or was it Viscount, I forget. Indeed my passion for slides goes beyond the norm, there is no doubt about that. Jessica is pregnant again, due in April, and yeah, i'll say it again- i'll still be shooting- perhaps things will get a bit more complicated but he who wants to get it done, gets it done, and I plan to "get it done."
Hopefully see you in FRA (or is the baby due then, I forgot) and if you can non-rev up to BOS show the week before, would love to see you for the slide show- Tristar's gems alone should get you to come up atleast just for the evening then go home in the AM.
