US Photographers watch out for US Airways A319 N700UW and B757-200 N623AU. They are being painted in Star Alliance colors!.

Take care,
Rafal

I was just thinking the same thing about them having money to do this. You'd think this would be a really low priority right now. But, from the standpoint of an aviation photographer, I won't complain! I still need to see that damn USAirways.com plane in a lighting situation that allows for a decent photograph.

I can hardly imagine them being called in early for a repaint... They were most probably due for painting anyhow, they just receive a different paint than usual.

If an aircraft goes into D-Check ( correct me if I am wrong ) it has all paint taken off, and will be painted newly after the check, so they have to do it anyway... That's the same way like most other carriers are repainting their fleet!

cheers,
Florian

One of the 76's should be painted soon, can't recall a Reg. It should be N656US, that thing is hideous.

HAHA, yea you still have to catch one of those  Big grin

Two E70's should be repainted in the SA colors before they are delivered, Although they of course have stopped deliveries to US. So maybe they are out there already....Somewhere!

Florian-

You're right, typically aircraft are repainted during D-Check. At Kitty Hawk, we repaint ours during most C-Checks. However a new livery (or a "different" livery such as Star Alliance) costs much more to do than a "normal" paint scheme. Spending a ton of money to lay out a new livery on an aircraft that could be parked soon can't make the bean counters very happy!

Hey Josh,

That's right, we missed that one right when we were packing up on the 28th, not that the lighting was any good by then. I went back three days later at the same time and one went sailing by behind me as I was walking down that railroad track! I did get a bonus Fedex DC-10 for my trouble though.

Luckily I got N573US last Sunday during the afternoon. You can spot those things coming miles away luckily.

Now, anyone know when those STAR Alliance a/c are coming out of the paint shop, and/or a possible schedule for them?

Ed, I agree. Repaint 656. Although last Sunday I saw another one that was even worse (if that's possible). Didn't get a reg though.

Joe

I think Big Foot is blurry, Its not the photographers fault. Theres a large out of focus monster roaming the countryside

Joe -

656 really was in sad shape, so it's hard to imagine another plane in worse condition!

I remember getting into my car, turning it around, and then watching Ed jump out from your car and start snapping pictures. I couldn't see what the heck he was shooting because I was facing the other way, but when that shiny silver hit the corner of my eye, I was pissed! Although the lighting wasn't the best, it would have been nice to at least have the opportunity to *try* to take a picture! Big grin I've heard that it comes to LGA every once in a while, but I've never seen it there. I also heard it visits DCA, but I didn't see it while we were all down there in July. One day soon, I hope.

I too would like to see some sort of a schedule for the rollout of these two star alliance planes. There are a few US employees in the NY area who might have access to this information, so maybe one of them will chime in here.

I was looking at all the shots of 656, and It looks like it had some troubled spots on the back about a year or two ago and then they repainted/ blended the back. It looked horrible, wrong tint, wrong application procedure. And now those same spots are peeling off again! I wonder what company US gets to do the refinishing and decaling on their A/c. Cause they never prep them correctly, with the paint peeling in the same spots the second time around not to forget the dreaded Star Alliance Stickers  Nuts.
