Just checked the all time stats on the search page and found out that Sam Chui is right now the first and only member of the 2000 (average views) / 2000 (number of pics) club, congratulations!  Big thumbs up

There is a guy called Joe not far behind him..........

Not to be argumentative Quantas 077, but your list simply isn't correct.
When you say......
"top ten of all time averages for shots in database."

somehow all the numbers aren't there.
I personally have the following....
"On average, a photo of yours has been viewed 6317 times". So go figure, it's just a number on a list that for some reasons doesn't actually show the highest averages of all the members who post to A.net.

I really don't care anyway. It's just a number on a list, but thought you'd like to know that there are indeed errors in the system.

Good spot about not caring about views.
When the site has such a biased system favoring shots uploaded just after midnight anything based on views must be taken with a dose and a half of salt.
Getting a good hitting shot is a matter of luck based on the quality of the photo and its upload time.
A good quality shot will always get its fair share of views but the key is its upload time.
A great photo uploaded between 2100 and 2359 will battle to make it to the first page of top 24/48 yet if it was uploaded between 0000 and 0600 it may end up pic of the day.
Its always interesting to check the new upload page just after midnight site time to see what gets uploaded and i still find it unuasual to see the same names appearing time and again.
Views are from where i sit a very POOR way to judge the quality of a photo and hence how good a photograher is and given how flawed the system we have at the moment is doesn't help at all.
Sam is a great photographer however exploring angles few people have thought of and very willing to listen to advice and idea's so congrate to him for getting his 2000th photo up.

Yeah, Sam's a rich dude but instead of playing golf all day and driving a lamborghini around town- both of which he can do- he chooses to travel the world in search of unique airliner photos. Who's better than him?

Darren,
I totally agree with your statement and that thing with the upload time is not justice to all, but obviously it has something to do with the scripts of airliners.net.
I still don't know why not every upload stays exactly 48 hours in the first page of top (then) 48 hours, but as you stated : Good spot about not caring about views.
We are not forced to upload to this site and as we decide to do we have to accept the rules.
However, to be honest: If I really like a shot and other people feel the same way, isn't it a good feeling?

By the way, you are not asking the European screeners to do their 'work' in the hours after midnight only, aren't you?  Wink/being sarcastic

Hi Gerhard
Yep it is a good feeling to see a nice shot from somewhere i have never been or am likely to go.
I have no idea why a photo can't sit on the 24/48 page for 48hrs rather than 25.
Just a pity that so many awesome shots go by the wayside without their fair share of time on the most important 24/48 page.
Without a good upload time its destined for obscurity in no time and that s the sad part. With so many photo's being uploaded a great photo at the wrong time will disappear into the DB as most of us havn't the time to spend scouring it looking for the odd ripper shot.

I'm not saying Sam is a bad photographer. He has the skills and obviously the passion for aviation and is probably a nice guy to hang out with. What I'm saying is that this 2000/2000 plateau can be reached by anyone with the time & resources - even me if I had it. But I'll never get there shooting CRJ"s from outside the fence.

First of all congrats to Sam, he is really one of the best in here but I find it dificult to judge who is the "best photographer" because everybody has diferent styles and oportunities to shoot. I couldn't say somebody is the best.

AGAIN and AGAIN... its always the same names.

I think A.net should have a more even system to upload all the photos of the day at a certain time or so, not the same guys shots first and then the rest...

Juan, you are mistaken.

Photos are screened and added to the database in the order they are upload. There is the rare "jump ahead" for something worthy of a banner (aka newsworthy) but the people with high hit averages have their pictures added in the same way that EVERYONE has theirs added.

It is a very fair system.

I belive you and what you say, but I think Darren's post is true in some way.
I've uploaded pics at 0:01hrs (Sweden time) and been on the last bunch added of that day when they come up for screening.

Anyways, I don't care much for that and I believe you guys don't choose what to screen or what not (if you did then the queue would be a mess). You just get the next on the queue and screen it, but maybe there are some luchy guys to always have their shots screened at the best time...

Just my two cents... Now I hope you screen my next bunch at a good time  Big thumbs up
