I've been trying to upload some pics but keep getting the message that the files are too large, I' m not having any luck resizing them. What size mode do you shoot in to keep from having this problem, I shoot with a Canon EOS D60.

I shoot in JPEG fine at 3072x2048 and resize to 1024x683 most of the time. Do you have photoshop of a similar program? It's very easy to resize once you know how.

I always shoot with the largest JPEG-configuration 3072x2048. Edit my pictures with Photoshop elements and resize to 1200x800.
It depends on the kind of shot how large the finel file will be. Often between 250 and 400 kB.

If you can't even resize your shots can you do the other work needed to get your shots accepted here, like cropping, sharpening etc?

I shoot 'medium' on my 300D, and I always resize to 1024x680. I went through a spell of shooting at the maximum size, but for my purposes, I didn't see much benefit in doing so.

I also think that 1024 wide is more than adequate for the internet.

You always want to shoot in the largest possible size your camera will allow. Gives you plenty of room to crop, rotate if needed, and resize after all other processing.

Also, do all your processing (sharpening, color, levels, etc) BEFORE downsizing to the desired upload size.

Ooh er! I've always been told that workflow should be in the order:
Level (if req)
Crop (if req)
Resize
then complete all other processing.

I always understood that there's a significant risk of introducing jaggies if you sharpen before resizing.

Anyone else have an opinion on this?

I always:

Level
Crop
Adjust Levels
Resize
Sharpen
