Afternoon All,
Just wondering if any Airliners.net photographers will be in Miami between 11 November and 16 November and if so do you fancy meeting up for some photography at MIA?
I have not visited MIA since 1997 and am unsure as to what the current situation is like for photography.

Things are not the same as when you were here last. The only place to spot is from the 94th Aero Squadron. Every other place, the police will tell you sometimes nicely and politely; and others they'd swear you were hiding an SA-7 in your camera bag and rudely tell you to move, or else...

RWY 9 will definitely get you run off by the cops. Where by RWY 13 threshhold are you talking about? Going east on NW 25 ST until it curves to the right?

The photo holes are still open on NW 25th Street from what I hear. It's runway 12, not 13. You can shoot 8L, 8R and 12 ops from there if you have enough focal length.
Photographing aircraft since the Earth was flat and on Airliners.net since #338

Hello Simon,
I haven't had any problems in Miami in the last 2-3 years. I usually go to the Holes at 25th St (which is the only officially approved photo site), but I also go to EL Dorado store, on the threshold of Rwy9, and sometimes on the 94th Squadron. Great spots and never had any problems.
Only once I have been stopped by a Police Officer and it was because I was at the Holes and Air Force One was about to take off from Runway 8R.
For me, Miami has been pretty spotter friendly so far and I love it. I'll be around here in Nov so let me know when you are coming and we can meet and I'll show you around.
Hope to see you soon.

I went by the "Holes" spot and yes there were a couple of photographers from the UK there. Spent a while chatting with them. I work down the street from there, so if you want contact me via email.

I just got home from looking for the Holes this afternoon. Could not find them. Unless I am blind they are gone. I went down 25th and I did not see anything. I followed the road till it ended and came back but no joy.
Went by 94th Aero Squadron but they are so far down the runway it is useless. It might be ok for departures on 9 but other than cargo how many taxi all the way out there?
I wish that park on the perimeter was open. That is right in the sweet spot.

ok Simon, I'll be waiting for your email.
Michael, to get to the holes go down on 25th St, after you pass the 67th Av light keep going and you will see one more light, then as soon as you pass a private parking lot on your left, you can see the runways now. The Holes are located on that little "park" with 2 palm trees. You can park your car on the street that goes south from the holes (on the shade), that's 65th Av.

The "holes (for metal squares approx. 8-in by 8-in with a circular cut-out in the center for your lens)" is immediately past the eastern end of the parking lot for custom's employees. As you are going east on 25 ST, when you are even with the test cell on the right, look to your left, and that's where the "holes" are.
