Rhaa, it appears that during my last flight, some lowlife stole my backup digicam which was stowed in the overhead bin (I was happily clicking away in the jumpseat). Has this ever happened to you and is your equipment insured again theft ?

Man, that really sucks! Can you complain to the airline about it? Or is there a rule that if you choose to store something in the overhead bin, it's your problem?
Fortunately, my equipment has stayed safe up to now...I guard it with my life! I should probably also get it insured at some point? Can someone tell me where would be a good place to do that (preferrably in Germany)?
Also, Will, how do you still manage to get jumpseat rides all the time? What's your secret?
I guess that's what happens in the end, you start thinking about the beginning.

the same thing happenned to me on my trip home from KSFO. i was flying through KCLT and had gone to fosherman's wharf to buy gifts for a few close friends before i got to the airport. well i left those gifts in a bag in the overhead and went to sleep. i was still asleep in the morning when i got to KCLT and had to practically run to catch my connection to KLGA. it wasn't until i was on the flight did i realize that the bag was missing. must have bene a connecting pax, cuz KCLT baggage service didnt get it. was worth a try anyway. this is the second time it's happenned to me. the first time, someone took my $400 scanner from my flight bag between pheonix and dallas.

I can't stand people that can't get their own toys...why take someone else's? I've been lucky, but I still feel for anyone that has lost something like that...it's not cool.
I miss jumpseat flying...used to do it all the time when I would go TDY on KC-135s. Flew up front on an RC-135 once--it's about the same. What I wouldn't give to swap that middle seat between the pilot and copilot for the seat on the left though...

Sorry to hear about the theft. Both camera and lenses are insured by my "People aborad" policy from my Swedish insurance company. Had my SonyF717 stolen at the airport at Nice just before Christmas last year and they replaced it. No questions asked.
Sidenote: Do anyone of you know how Iberia/Air Nostrum is in terms of allowing jumpseat rides?
