Alright, as the title states, "whats the frickin deal with EWR"??
This is to expand on the "secret spots" topic earlier... of all the airports i've kindly requested spotting info of from the locals, EWR is the ONE and only place that NO ONE will help me one iota.
i went up there for about 3 hours in february, blindly, because i received NO replies to my inquiries about spotting there; and found one of the goodies on my own... (keep this in mind..)
Now. This is starting to frankly piss me off. I have talked to "JP" on numerous occasions and he has been helpful with everything i've asked about, EXCEPT EWR!! i have written other locals, such as Mr.Borda about EWR and recieved NO response.
im just wondering, why is EWR such a tightly held secret?? Or is it just my imagination and by chance i have had no luck whatsoever with EWR info??? (which i agree could be possible)
My point being, i have limited time when i fly there, i would like to know where to go ahead of time, but if no one tells me, i will, (refer 3rd paragraph) i WILL find the spots, it will just take me longer... and be a bigger pain-in-the-a....
My real hometown airport is ORD. And when people email me about spotting info, i usually write about 3-4 long paragraphs explaining in detail the better spots, the typical r/w usage, sometimes the ATIS phone number....
Im not asking for that in return, but i would like something!!!!
this "secret" stuff is childish; if your TRULY a good photographer, you better have something beyond your "secret" place to distinguish you from the others...

I guess EWR is the only hidden secret in the airliner world...........I have been to EWR a couple of times, twice I was harassed by airport cops and the third time I was out on the ramp with CO, that was way more fun.
Being there and looking at the pictures, I would say most of the shots are done from the Terminal thru the windows, but don't ask me which Terminal it is..........the one facing the New York Skyline..........
That is all what I can say............nevertheless I still agree to keep some spots secret, if someone else find them fine......

i always respond if you email me and if you ask me about ewr i'll tell you too. Mike McLaughlin answered the question already on one of these threads- its a restricted area which we need to pre-arrange to get up there and we are not at the liberty to invite other folks up there- we minimize our trips up there ourselves. If it was a public area we'd gladly tell you as i tell you about all the other public areas you ask me about.

*sigh* alright, first off im sorry for the harsh tone i gave, i was in a pissy mood already last night...
that having been said, i think the biggest thing that gripes my butt is when people dont reply to my emails.... if it was a private area, FINE, is that so hard to respond? (im honestly not pointing at anyone in particular)
unfortunetely that spot is very limited access as we needed special permission to shoot from there. I would be more than happy to give you directions to other great spots around our airport...... etc... etc "
(i made that up, by the way)
But is that too hard? i went to LAX for one day, got driven around with some buddies and still have NO clue how to give directions to people who ask me. So do i just not respond? No, what i'll do is tell them that i dont know how to get to any of the spots as i was not the one driving... etc... then i point them out to people who may be able to help them, or give them a link to the "lax spotters club" for info

Chris- Mellow out a little pal. I for one never received an email from you regarding EWR spots that I can remember. I work 10-12 hour days for UPS and often go days at a time without checking my email.
Don't think I blew you off or something.... I never got your email.
Which email address of mine did you use??
And there's nothing to hide here....I assume your talking about the photos with NYC in the background, if so then Joe P and Mike M already answered it for you. That's a "restricted area" not open to the public.
We're invited as guests, thus I can't take it upon myself to invite someone along with me. It's not my place to and I hope you understand that. People often contact me about where to spot and I'm always quick to help out with info.
Security at the three big airports here (EWR/JFK/LGA) is always at a high state of alert. Around here, seems the cops always view us as a threat of some sort even after we explain to them that what we do is just a hobby. Still... many times they tell you leave and go on your way. But I'll tell you what though.... next time you make it around here on a sunny weekend, let me know and I'll personally show you around.

alright, im blushing a bit but thanks guys for responding... Carlos i just used the email off one of your pictures; but that aside, i have written other people (never did write mike about EWR... prolly shoulda done that ) and havent gotten replies, i cant off hand remeber any other names, it was some time ago.....
oh well, i mentioned earlier that my imagination might be exaggerating the EWR thing, possibly paranoia and sleep deprivation have combined to alter my better judgement... but i do apologize if i pissed anyone in particular off, at least i got my question answered
*sigh* off to bed with me....
BTW... how DOES one go about getting special access to stuff like that? (in general) im always up for a mooching challenge...

Chris- The best way I can answer that for you is to make freinds in high places I guess.... there's really no easy way to answer that question.
Myself, I used to work for CO a few years ago and made quite a few freinds there. I know Joe P, Mike M and other also worked for airlines in a past life.
Of course.... if you get a job with an airport/airline then your heading in the right direction!
