A question for the screeners primarily:

Is there something different happening with the screening process?

As I write I see that there are 1692 photos currently in screening, these having been uploaded over 4 different days. I was used to one day's uploads being screened before the next lot were looked at. I have certainly never seen so many photos 'in screening' at one time.

Has there been a change in the process such that more photos have their first screening quickly whilst older ones still wait to be finally looked at?

Paul

Paul, I think it's just some screeners may have more time and hence screen more images, then they sit waiting for another screener to screen them.

Screeners, as far as I understand it, can jump about the queue and screen what they like, ckw always used to say this was the case. There can only be so many side-on shots of A319's one person can take. They may see something different and take a view at the images.

Probably all wrong mind you...!!  Smile

Ian.

Ian

We have an interface which allows us to pull specific photos up for screening, out of order. This is used ONLY for screening of legitimate priority subjects. We are informed of this via an email to screeners@ airliners net

Such "picking" from the queue is not done in normal screening.

The choice we're allowed is to screen from the "HQ" queue, or the "normal" queue.

Photos in the "HQ" queue (not entirely representative name) are those which have already received one "HQ" vote by a different screener. It is normal for photos to require three "HQ" votes before they are accepted. Photos in the "normal" queue have not yet received any "HQ" votes - so they either haven't been seen at all yet, or they've only received "Second-Opinion" votes so far.

It appears strange to you, Paul, because there will be lots of photos from all of the days which are still in the HQ queue, and are waiting for a second or third (or more!) screener to look at them and make their decision(s).

It may be possible (indeed it happens often) that one screener has already screened ALL the pics in the HQ queue, so they can't do anything with that queue. They then start working on the "normal" queue, from which they could reject, instant-add, second-opinion, or add a HQ vote (and hence move it to the HQ queue).

So, you see it's not quite as straightforward as a pure sequential single-line queue.

However, it's important to point out that nobody or nothing gets priority other than legitimate newsworthy subjects.

This what I was trying to say - some days the words will not form logical sentences, I blame the beer Big grin

Cheers Tamsin, nice to have it explained.

Tamsin,

That was a very helpful response. Much appreciated. And thanks to you as well Ian.

I have to say that in my experience I have never seen so many photos being screened at any one time - you guys must be working very hard. Whilst I am at it, your efforts are much appreciated.

Take it easy.

Paul

It looks to me that you're trying to get favoritism for some of your photos in the queue Big grin

Fergul,

If only - I haven't got anything in the queue at all.

 Big thumbs up
