Sensor Dust In Brand New 20D

After only 5 days of use of my new 20D I noticed literally dozens of dust spots on the CMOS; I talked with a friend who recently purchased the same camera and he had the same experience. It is so much dust that it looks as if the dust was there before I even started using it. Not what you would expect, IMHO.

Any other 20D owners can tell me about their views on this?

Feliz Año Nuevo

Mine was filthy too. Much worse than my 300D was when I got that.
I was pretty disappointed on my first major outing with the 20D to find cmos dust spots everywhere, so that evening it got treated to it's first sensor clean. It's alot better now.

Must be a very popular problem with new Canon DSLR's, my brand new 10D also had dust on the sensor from the day I received it. Nothing alittle blow didnt solve.

My 10D has dust as well, but it is easy to clean anyway. I use sensor swab.

Thanks for your replies, I feel a bit better now knowing I am not alone in this.  Smile

Being a panning freak sensor dust is a real pain in the ass for me, guess I'll have to live with it. Anyway it is difficult to understand that Canon doesn't take better care of this, since they charge close to 100 € for a sensor cleaning here in Spain!!!

Saludos

My 300D was immaculate...the 20D however came with more extra features than I had planned on, including factory installed dust.

They are all assembled in a very clean production/assembly area. The cameras are cleaned prior to shipment, but...as with any assembly which is built from many components there will be small particles which find there way onto the component parts. During shipment, boxes thrown around, these particles will be dislodged and many will find there way into the large area in front of the mirror. The first few times you use the camera the mirror slams around and the particles are attracted to the sensor. Never change the lens without turning the camera off first either, wait 30seconds before removing the lens.

Ian.

I have experienced more dust spots on my 20D than in my D60. I can't really explain why. My D60 has been in use for 2 and a half years, and I would say that dust has only been a mild problem all this time. But my 20D has accumulated quite a few spots already. I will need to do a sensor clean very soon, something which I did not have to do on my D60 at such an early stage. Anyone knows what's the reason? Is the 20D sensor more prone to dust sticking to its surface?

Thanks

Mine came without any dust spots. But after a month of shooting, and constantly changing lenses outdoor I've got few spots. I sent it out to the factory for free cleaning. Now when I change my lens I go inside the car. No more dust for me.

Oh, BTW I'm shooting Nikon D100 Big grin

When I change lenses I do everything I can prior to taking off the lens. I also angle the camera down however I doubt that that will make much of a difference. Big grin

There is a fine line between a picture and a photo. The latter seems to be disappearing.
