Hello, I've just had 3 photos rejected for badcompression, but I'm unable to see any signs of it on my monitor. Can someone else please give me their opinion? Thank you

The first link doesn't work for me, but on the second one I do see just a little bit of compression along the bottom of the fuselage and around the logos. Make sure you save at JPEG quality 12. No reason for the large size either, IMO. I think it would look fine in a smaller size.

First Link doesn't work for me either.

Second photo is nice, clear and level. I have an old monitor in work so can't give proper advice but I will say that the photo is a bit big. As Q said, try keeping the ratio of your photo to 4:3 (1024x768).

Take care

And remember, every time you save a jpeg it compresses further even at max setting, so work off the original and either make all your changes at one go or save in a different format and reconvert to jpeg at the end. Good luck!

Hi Daniel,

I can't see the first, but I have a few recommendations for the second.

From a screener's point of view, 1600 pixel wide shots are very hard to accept. They instantly review flaws that the small shots don't.

The acception rate for 1600 pixels wide is far lower than the other resolutions!
The odds are stacked up against you unless the shot is perfect!
I highly recommend that you don't upload 1600 pixels wide whatsoever. If you do, reserve it for very special shots where detail might be required.

Other than that, I'm viewing the photo on the LCD screen at work, so it might look worse than it really is (I screen on a really HUGE Sony Trinitron at home - LCD screens are not very good for editing or screening in my opinion).

The res is too large on this monitor for me to see if it's centred or not... (I also screen at 1600x1200). But I can see that the windows are a bit blurry and the nose is a bit blurry.

Borderline for 1600 pixels. But you would have this accepted at 1200 x 800 for example.

Decrease your upload res, and you rejection rate will drop significantly.

Regards,

Glenn Stewart

Thanks Glenn

The first link don't work because I appealed it. Still waiting on that, but life goes on of course  Smile
