Hey all,

I have just booked up a trip to Cologne after seeing all of the lovely images that come from the observation deck there. Can someone tell me what time the observation deck closes?

Any other information about CGN would be great. Ill be there for the day so will try and get as many photos as possible!

Kind Regards,

Simon Nicholls

Don't know about opening / closing times, but it's usually open the whole day so from early morning until evening.

The obs.deck is glassed, but with a chair from the terrace you can easily shoot over the glass walls!

Regards,
Florian

Florian,

Do they mind you climbing on stuff to see over?

Never had any problems when I've been. There's a guard up there but he was really helpful, even told us when the interesting traffic was due in!  Smile

Don't stand on the large wobbly information tables/desks that are right up against the glass.

When i was there in september to go on the IR SP flight. We went up there to watch it come in and there was about 6 people standing on it and it was very unstable and felt like it was bout to collapse!

Hi Simon,

the glass on the terrace itself is tinted, so you must have something to stand on. When I was there last July there was no chair to stand on available.

An alternative is a spot inside the terminal with non-tinted (and clean) glass which is below the terrace. It also gives you a better angle of the planes, you don't shoot from too high above.

Do the authorities mind people doing this?

Due to the Germanwings expansion the view from terminal area is blocked as there are aircraft parked 80% of the time.

Why not bring a ladder, Simon?

It's a bit difficult as im flying EZY. I don't really want to have to check it in - as this takes time. Knowing EZY, they will charge me for it anyway!

Thanks for all of your comments.

I have been to CGN today. No chairs outside as it's winter time.
