Well as a few of you all know i made a big order of equipment this week.

Well it all arrived on Wednesday but i only just got round to un packing and packing it into my nice new Lowepro for my first outing tomorrow.

When i was looking at my nice new 70-200 IS USM f2.8 i noticed something was not quite right..... It had no "IS" switches !!!! When i looked again i then noticed that they had sent the wrong effing len. It was the non "IS" version thats £400.00 cheaper than what i had paid for.

Needless to say i have sent the company (who a very well know) a very annoyed email insisting they send the correct lens with a stamped addr jiffy bag for me to send the incorrect lens back in....

The moral of the story . Always tripple check everything !!!  Sad

Simon,

My heartfelt commiserations to you. That's the kind of thing that would send me into a frenzy!

I really hope that you get a prompt response from them and you can start enjoying your new lens very soon.

All the best.

Paul

Simon,

I'm surprised you waited that long! Well, get thee to Myrtle with your 135mm or one of the car parks with the 300mm prime and have some fun in the meantime.

Cheers

James

Yeah i was pretty p#ssed when i found out. That lens was my main workhorse and it now looks like im not going to get the correct one now until after the weekend. Seeing as i had lined up 2 things (weather permitting). First was a day at LHR followed by its second use shooting Ice Hockey in the evening. Thats not going to happen now !!!!  Sad

At least i have checked their site and it clearly states i have 7 Days to confirm any errors !!!!! It could have been worse,i could have ordered it from some mystery man on ebay !!! Then i realy would have had no chance of getting the money back...

For such a company you would realy have thought they could not make such a huge error !!!!!

Hey Simon

I had the same problem a few years ago with a very large, reputable US store. I ordered a Canon 100-300 5.6L lens, they sent me the 100-300 4.5-5.6, which is a much inferior, much less expensive lens. I was in Australia at the time, so I had to send it back to the US, and they had to recieve the old one before they sent the one I ordered. It took a long time and I was very upset! I ended up not having any lens for a three week trip I was taking in the meantime. And they didn't even seem concerned.

In fairness they have been very good up to this point.... Im just waiting to see what they reply with after this bombshell... Im pretty sure they will appologise and send the correct lens.

One things for sure and that the fact that im not going to send the incorrect lens back to them until i get the correct one.....

LHRSIMON,
You may have to send the lens back regardless...that is if you want the lens you REALLY ordered!

Many companies will not do business the way you are hoping (meaning they send the lens before you give the wrong one back to them). Just the way things are!

Hope all goes well, though!  Smile

Hi Simon,

Sorry to hear about this, I can think of nothing more infuriating. It really p**sses me off when things like that happen too.

I doubt very much that they will dispatch the correct lens before they receive the wrong one back. My only advise would be to return the non-IS version using Special Delivery insured, that way you can track it, and they can't say it was never received. I don't know where you bought it, but they should refund you the shipping if they are a half decent outfit.

I hope you enjoy the day at LHR. Just slap on the 300 and get shooting, that's my main lens nowadays.

See ya
Martin

Simon,

Where did you order it from??? I think the ebst bet is to put the lens back in it's box and then ship it secured delivery via UPS/DHL back to the company. I can 99% guarentee that they will not send out a replacement until they have that one back. Have they debited your card the amount for the IS one???

Another thing to note, do you really need the IS version? You could keep this one and have £400 to spend on other stuff. Like C1, or more memory, or a flash gun and cord, or a battery grip?

Just a thought...

Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris.

1) 7Dayshop. As i said up till now they have been very good.

2) Rather than me having to arrange everything im going to ask them to post me a stamped addressed Jiffy bag for me to add the Lens and return it to them. I gather they have insurance+an accout with the Royal mail. So once i passed it over to the post office its covered by their insurance. I work in Logistics and i know how some courier packages are handled !!!

3) Yes i have paid in full  Sad So at present im £400.00 down)

4) Yep i realy need the IS version. Its going to be used for Ice Hockey aswell. So its vital to get every bit off assistance i can get due to low light.

5) Yeah i could do with a Bigger flash but the one on the camera is good enough for my indoor needs realy. I already have the grip.

Cheers Chris and i will let everyone know the outcome as their ment to be ringing me back later today !!!

I hope it's an improvement on the 300D's, because the onboard flash is pretty weak.

Well its all sorted (fingers crossed) all credit to 7dayshop.

What iv'e agreed is to send the incorrect lens back and upon me faxing them proof of shipping (the special delivery number/sticker) they will credit the £1199.00 debited on my card. Then when they receive the Lens i will then re-order the correct lens for them to ship to me.

And for their error they gave me a free 512 mb card + the hama mini travel rucksack  Smile

So at present i can confirm that when 7dayshop do f### up they will sort it out  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I will again advise later in the week to confirm if everything went ok.

Simon,

Very pleased to hear that things appear to be getting sorted for you. If all now goes to plan and you end up with the card and rucksack as extras the weekend may not look so bad at all in a few weeks time.  Smile

I had a similar experience when I ordered a Sigma 24-70 from a well known UK photographic dealer (not 7ds). They managed to send out the older version of the lens which they were selling for £20 cheaper on the web site. I rang them immeadiatley and to their credit they arranged for a courier to come at my convenience to collect the wrong lens and drop the right one off at the same time. I can totally inderstand the frustration.
Good luck getting your replacement.
