Just like everyone else I am looking to upgrade my camera. I just seen that Minolta has come out with the Maxxum 7D 6.1mp. From what I can read it says that it will accept the Minolta AF lens. My question, has anyone tested this camera out yet and if so what did you think? First thing that caught my eye was the price tag...1600.00usd ! Reading the features of the camera it sounds awesome but the price sounds and looks steep. Since I already own a Minolta Maxxum 7000 SLR and an assortment of Minolta AF lens do you think this might be the way to go?

Your feedback would be very helpful.

thanks,

This camera also has internal image stabilization. Photographic Magazine and Popular Photography & Imaging both reviewed this camera recently and it sounds very solid. I used to be a Minolta guy but converted to Canon when I turned digital. I dont think it would be a bad buy, but, you should also consider Canon.... FOR THE LENSES!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

But, with your lens collection, you are already ahead of the game

I bought Alpha 7D (Maxxum 7D) two months ago and it works fine. I did not compare with Canon 20D, because
my buying decision is purely to use on-hand Alpha lens.
Someone said that 20D with IS lens is better than 7D with image stabilization and Alpha lens for airplane spotting, but my 7D photo just looks fine.

Thank you for the feedback. I know the price tag alone will slow the purchase but I would still like to check it out.

Now if I can get my wife to go along with a 1600.00 dollars price tag..HAHA

Kind regards,

I would suggest taking a couple sample shots. I don't know the Minolta well, but after purchasing the 10D - I do not regret spending the money.
The same goes for all the lenses in my collection.

Ok I know how prices can change on new items but this is ridiculous. This same camera (body only) is now $1099.00usd through expresscamera.com. At this rate I wonder if I wait a couple of weeks the price will be down in the 800.00usd range???

I've made the decision to purchase a Dynax 7D (European name for the Maxxum 7D), because I already own an analog Dynax 7xi with AF lenses. These lenses will function with the 7D, but unfortunately the flash doesn't. The image stabilisation is built in the body, so it won't be necessary to buy new IS lenses. And as I understand from the reviews that I have read, this anti-shake system works amazingly well. You can choose much lower shutter speeds or apertures in circumstances with not much light.  Wow!

The camera became available in november in Europe and it was indeed quite pricy: around 1600 euros for the body. But at the cheapest internet shops the price has already gone down to less than 1200 euros. I will wait a few months with my purchase in the hope that it will drop further.  Yawn

Awesome photo VIAF !!!

Fergul, I read that review and I really think this is the camera for me. As Aviator100 was saying the lens (AF) will work so that will reduce the cost of purchasing all new lens.

I think I will wait a little while to let the prices stabilize and then make the buy.

Kind regards,

It is pricey, but that may change. I love the camera, though.
