Finally got my brand new Panasonic Lumic FZ 20. I've tested it out a little and so far it looks very promising. As I already have another smaller Lumix camera, it doesn't take long to get acquainted with it.

I'll be testing it out at an airport as soon as possible. Can't wait. Big grin

Thanks to everyone here who helped my choose camera.  Smile

Kukkudrill, (which btw is a rather offensive term in Norwegian...) thanks. I hope so too. I just have to get through the bunch of photos I still have waiting to be uploaded. I've made it to July 2004 at the moment, so making progress... Big grin

Nice one Thom@s,

Welcome to the FZ club. Got my FZ-20 last week, but weather has been too poor for aircraft shooting. Got lots of cats instead! Might get to EGBJ tomorrow if I'm lucky, just for practice. Have fun!

Jim

Thomas, kukkudrill is Maltese for crocodile but it's fascinating to know that it is also a Norwegian word. Now I'll have to find out what it means ...

GKirk, in my defence I never go spotting if the weather is shait.  Smile

Flygmolinafmly, actually, I must say that the zoom ability really impresses me, but so far I can't say the same about the quality. I used it at a concert last night and all the shots were grainy. Haven't tested it out too much outdoors in daylight yet, but will do.  Smile

Kukkudrill, I'll probably get banned if I translate it here, but I'll give you a hint: An offensive term for a part of the body only men have, combined with the word drill, does not make a nice result.  Innocent But I understand that it's 100% innocent... Hehe.

I haven't tried doing any night photos yet.

But try doing this. Go to "menu" when you are going to take a picture. Change the "sensitivity" to something lower, either 80 or 100. I don't rememeber the default. Next, scroll down until you get to "pict. adj.". Change "noise reduction" to high.

See if you get any better results.

I couldn't find any of the stuff you mentioned under "menu". I have pict size, quality, audio rec, af mode, cont af, af assistant lamp, d zoom, stabilizer, flip anim, conversion. That's it...

Took the FZ-20 out today, as planned. Weather was dry but lighting was constantly changing leading me to make quite a few shots with the wrong exposure (good job its digital, eh?). Very windy making hand holding at 12x a bit tricky. My position relative to the sun and aircraft wasn't favourable either, especially when it is so low at this time of year. Quite a few shots from the shady side which won't be suitable for here.

Got home, stuck the card in the PC and wasn't overly impressed with the results, didn't really spot any a.net 'winners'. Feeling a bit disappointed, I started working on the images anyway and I'm now feeling a lot better, the photos are brushing up quite well. The camera seems to capture quite a bit of detail, but it doesn't really come out until after you've processed the images. I'm really happy with those shots where the lighting and aircraft are in the right positions.

Don't panic yet, Thom@s. I think with the right skies and the right shooting position, this camera will be a winner.

Best regards,

Jim

Between 'd.zoom' and 'stabilizer' you should have 'col.effect' and 'pict.adj'.

Do you not have these?

Are you in SCN1 or SCN2 mode? If so, swap to P mode (or A,S, M). You cannot alter the ISO, sharpness etc in any of the SCN modes as they are set by the mode you choose.

'col.effect' and 'pict.adj' do not therefore appear in SCN1 or SCN2.

I think this may be the problem. Let us know!

Best regards,

Jim

Hi!

Got my FZ-20 in December. Last weekend I took some pictures without changing any of the default settings (Picture Adjustment, ISO setting, Colour Effects). The results were ok, but improvable. Although, some pictures have been accepted. See here...
