is there a point to this thread? it's not like we're millionaires and can afford to go and by this kit, i don't really care how much it is, i'm happy with my own 20D and lens kit.
just for the heck of it, without even looking at prices i'd say it'd be close to $45000.

Aaron!
Sorry, I wasn't snaping at all, apologies if you thought so. I think I need more maths lessons, this coming from a mechanical engineer
But having said that I looked at the B&H site and I'm getting $17000 just for the lenses and bodies.
Maybe I'm shopping in the wrong place, please tell me where to get those cheap lenses as I'll be in NY next thursday getting my 70-200mm LIS and that on its own is $1600.

Firs of all, I think "ultimate" is relative.
> Every photographer has his own needs... I'd not buy all this stuff ( let alone the cost ) but some things I just don't need in general.
> Every location has other needs ( talking about aviation photog. only now ) If you do not travel a lot and stay around your home airport most of the time you better buy 1 high-end lens that fits you needs perfectly.
> Personal things. Some like push/pull zoom, others don't. Some like TC's others don't, some like filters, others don't... You get the idea.
Of course, hell I would like to have all that stuff... but 18k... oh well

Cool thread but this would'nt be my ultimate kit! There are no primes featured in your list! Where are the 300 2.8 L IS, 400 2.8 L IS, 500 L IS and 600 L IS? Those are the things that make life worthwile

And INNflight who said it was 18k worth stop assuming
You said you found lenses and bodies for 16.950 USD. Assuming I'd not get everything THAT cheap I said about 18k... so there's nothing wrong with it, you tend to react a bit sensible, don't you?
Also I have to agree with Wietse, all the real goodies are missing.
Especially a 200mm f1.8L!!!

This thread seems very pointless to me.
I mean that is no where near the "ultimate" kit as you put it. Everyone has different needs in their photography and everyone will need different kit.
I mean that is hardly the "ultimate" kit for a macro shooter? Or a product photographer? Or what about film shooters or even the dreaded Nikon shooter?
I know exactly how much this kit will cost from one place but it varies country to country and place to place. Oh and seriously canon filters??? You must of not used them if you are suggesting them as the ultimate kit! Try BW or Hoya SMC Pro's. Much nicer. Why 5 different polarizers? Just buy one and swap it with step down rings. You can only use one at a time.
I have recently realised that less is more when it come to photo equipment. I have a fair few lenses and i find i am so much more productive when i go out with my 10D or my film body with a 50mm lens on it and thats it. No zooms, no flashes, no filters, no extra memory cards. I really reccomend to try it. When you are in the situation with one body, one fixed lens and nothing else you have to be creative and really does the world of good for your photography!
Cheers, Chris

No worries Aaron.
I think Chris has nailed it pretty much. Try to travel with all that equipment...
1) Heavy, heavy, HEAVY
2) Changing lenses, TC's and filters all the time. You may miss lots of shooting opportuneties cause you have to switch that much.
Would be better to get a 16-35L and a 35-350L with 2 bodies and you don't have to worry.

Cheers Aaron!
I wasn't trying to bash you or the thread at all btw! On other forums i have used there have been threads like this where people have taken advice and bought thousands of dollars of equipment only to find they dont need it and cant afford it! I just wanted to point out to any impresionable newbie that you don't need it!
Cheers,
Chris
