G'day
I remember seeing a topic or some posts not long ago by some of the guys who own 300/2.8's.
I am interested in seeing some shots of its performance with the 1.4 and 2x series II TC's from Canon.
I have a chance to pick up a 300/2.8 from a friend for a good price but was saving fo the 500F4 so i am interested in seeing what its like out at the 420 and 600mm mark.
Thanks
DArren

Hiya Darren,

I had the chance to rent this lens with the 1.4x TC for the Miramar Airshow back in October. I have one photo in the database with this combo. I only took about 20 total (Friday practice show and Saturday evening show. The day I planned on going to the airshow, Sunday, it rained)  Sad

I am going for the Canon 500mm F/4 L IS after I get back from deployment later this year (w/ the Canon 1.4x TC) and will pick up the Canon 2.0x TC shortly after.

I dont think one can go wrong with any of the high end 'L' Telephotos Canon offers.

I think Colin Work used the 300mm with TC, but I'm not sure - if that was the setup, he got some fantastic results with it.

Cheers

It takes a big man to admit they are wrong, and I am not a big man.

If I am not mistaken, Colin owned the F/4 L IS version of the lens. Please correct me if I am wrong.

That's right. He uses the F4.

The people that I know of that use one are: Joe Pries, Ryan Umphrey and for the Nikkor version, Sam Chui.

I'll check out Fred's now thanks Chris.
Chad where are you going to pick up your 500 from?
B+H or somewhere else.
There price is pretty good compared with almost everywhere else in the world at not much over 5000.
Thanks
Darren

I have been pleasantly happy with Adorama. Ill probably stick with them.

If you read the reviews of the Canon 500mm F/4 L IS at http://www.fredmiranda.com, your mouth will water. lol...

Thanks Juan.
Adorama hey i'll have to check out their website.
I gather then the service is excellent etc so it might be a good option instead of B+H.

He does stack convertors, but not 2 2xs. They dont fit on eachother. He stacks a 1,4 and a 2x convertor. Colin Work does the same with his 300 F4.

I cannot say Adorama is better than B & H. I have heard good things about B & H too. I started buying from Adorama in '03 and have stuck with them. They have Consumer ratings on par with B & H.

Best,
Chad

Thanks Wietse.
He's got some great shots with the stacked converters.Truly shows you how good the glass must to get the results Ryan does with tow TC's attached.
