Sigma 50-500mm excellent lens crystal clear and super fast focusing system as youd expect from the EX range see below for examples :

As for the 170-500mm again no real experience with but if its EX you cant really go wrong.

In my opinion i would stick to the EX Sigma range rather than look at the Quantaray range , now i have no experience in the Quantaray range i really dont have an accurate view but i havent heard very good reviews .

On separating the 2 lenses i used its a very difficult choice as the 50-500 had pretty much the whole range you would need but the 100-300 has the lower light capability therefore slightly more usable.

The big issue on this subject really is funds , as the Sigma EX range i would guess will cause more of a hole in your pocket

Hope this helps

regards Tony

Hi all,

"shouldn't that ex Corsair 743 be "untitled"?

Should have got baddirty too with that dust spot in the sky  Smile

Anywhoo, I also use the Sigma 100-300mm f4 EX lens and as Tony says its fast AF and tack sharp and I am very happy with it.

Cheers

Of all the lenses I ever sold, I only regret selling 2 of them, one of which was a Sigma EX 100-300 f4 - a REALLY nice lens - If I could find one at a good price I'd have another one tomorrow!

Cheers,
Dean

You might want to look into buying Sigmas new 80-400mm OS lens. I've heard some pretty good things about it. And it only costs a little more than the 50-500mm plus you get Sigmas optical stabilization.

Hope this helps,

Erik
