I'm now searching for my first digital SLR.
I'm sooo happy to finally doing the big step.
I would like to buy a Canon 300D because I know and you know that is a really good camera. I find a really good price in a shop in the Montreal downtown. In this shop I have the black lens kit, and I don't pay ALL Quebec expensive taxes. Is a good deal... The better I fund here.
But I fund another offer... I can have I really, really nice deal for a used but carefully used canon D60, the camera have a little bit more then 10 000 shutter. I know that this is 3 years old camera... I saw many good pictures tacked with the D60 in A.net DB. (Wietse de Graaf AirTeamImages, Mike Moores. NICE PICS )
What do you think I need to do... New black 300D with 18-55mm or a D60 without lens For a awesome price for save and buy a good lens for the D60 ?????

Well, having recently purchased a used D30 myself, I would say go for the D60. You're going to save a lot, which means you can pour more money into better lenses. Plus, I'm not even sure that the 300D is much better than the D60.

THe D30 is a great deal. I got one in late 2003, then bought some L Glass for it. You'd be surprised the difference a nice bit of glass makes. Only down side is its a bit limited at times, and is also getting long in the tooth.
So I'd say go for the D60, or maybe a 10D if you can find a deal somewhere. Then add some nice glass to your set up, you won't be disappointed with Canon gear.

You have to remember that the D60 sold for well over a thousand dollars when it first came out. I have the Black 300D and love the camera. The results are great and the camera itself is great looking.
Really I would say that they are both great cameras. I know a guy who owns one, have shot with one a few times, and like yourself I was faced with the same choice. I, as you can tell, went with the black 300D and wouldn't have it any other way. Regardless I think you'll be happy with whatever choice you make.

You help me to make my choose, and I finally decide to go with the D60 with this beautiful price. I try it yesterday and the quality is awesome.... Compare to my old canon S1.
Now I can invest in good lens for complete my gear.
Have some idea for good lens with the D60 ??? I got the 75-300mm first serie USM... and look for another lens.

I used the D60 for a bit under 2 years with fabulous results until the processor committed suicide and the shutter mechanism went awry.
Granted I used it quite heavily (I dont know how many shots it took though, no numbers), but still was quite disappointed with that sort of thing happening. It felt like there was a time limit to its use.
Enjoy the camera - it can give you excellent shots - just take very good care of it.

Though I have no personal experience with it, I have heard great things about the Canon 70-200 f4.0 L lens. The quality is apparently excellent and the price is not bad (I think its about $800CAD). I have pretty much decided it will be my next lens purchase - L glass quality with a reasonable price!

Definetely an excellent lens, dustin. I use it for about 95% of my shots in the database, and I love it. The focusing is lightning fast, and the picture quality is excellent. The only situation where it is somewhat lacking is low-light, but even then it is better than my kit lens, and it performs well with a flash.
