Let's say I am looking for the best monitor available for photo editing in the price range of 600 euro.

What should I look for? Why? Any suggestions?

As always, many thanks.

I know this was discussed before and from what I can remember is that most, including myself, use a CRT Flat screen. I think some screeners use them as well and its the prefered monitor. Also get the biggest one you can afford. I have a 19" but if you can get a 21" go for it. As for specific tech data, Can't help you there mate!

There are good deals to be found on Lacie monitors since they discontinued all CRT production. Lacie Blue Electron 22" is in the area of 600€ here in Sweden.

what seems to be the officer, problem?

CRT with a dot pitch off at least 0.25 and high frequency 80khz at highest resolution. IIyama for me works very good I've been using them for 6 years now and never been disapointed. IMHO the best you can get in that price range.

Who is using a 19" or larger LCD here? What brand and what do u think of it?

I am looking into getting a couple of LCD's to get rid of this bulky 19" CRT's I have here. The Lacie's are nice, but a bit expensive, the Hyunday Q19 seems a good alternative (of course I calibrate with a spider). Any experience with them?

Kind regards,
Erwin

Does anyone know if the new apple monitors will make the cut?

I'm planning on getting a new 20" monitor and a new powermac but wanted to know if I should head in a CRT direction with a different computer. Regardless does anyone know if these monitors are of editing quality? At $1,000 I sure hope they are!

Thanks again,

Matt

Here is a question for you's, this may be trivial but some monitor manufactures take it quite seriously.

What do you use to clean your screen with, Mr Muscle, Windowlene, or just soap and water?
As you know the CRT's act like a magnet to dirt and you want to clean the screen without leaving streeks. Does using ordinary household window cleaner damage the screen in any way?

Hey,
I just use half hot water to clean the screen !!
Then dry with a clean dust cloth.
Works good for me.

This is a topic of interest to me as well. Although, I have just ordered a 19" Viewsonic 191b LCD that will be here Friday. I have edited, uploaded and had pics accepted that were processed on my Dell 15" laptop running @ 1024x768. I plan on running my new LCD at 1280x1024 which is what I run my current 19" CRT at. The shots that I have had accepted that were processed on my laptop look somewhat darker and softer once I view them on my CRT. I can see why since the laptop LCD is much more vivid. I expect the same with the Viewsonic LCD but am wondering if the sharpness will be more like my usual CRT edited shots seeing how I am going to be running the new LCD at 1280x1024 as that is what my CRT is. Anywho, random thoughts  Smile
