I searched but wasn't able to find any information, so please bare with me if I missed something.
I was thinking of making the trek down to IND to do some spotting, I'm getting tired of the standard stuff around here (AZO, SBN, GRR, FWA (well not so much FWA)).
Is there any good spots to get photos at IND, and if so has anyone ever been hassled?

I have spent lots of time spotting at IND in the past (most recently, March 2004).
The best place I have found for outdoor spotting is on the top of the parking garage fronting the terminal; you can get great views of approaches to both parallel runways from the top level of the garage. I haven't been hassled, either. In fact, I met an Indianapolis police officer who shared the same passion as I; he was there spotting at the same time I was (he even had his squad car, his wife and kids).
Inside, I recommend the food court seating area (in the shopping area just before the security checkpoint before concourses B and C). I have sat by the large window while eating; this large window overlooks the apron between concourses C and D. You can see plenty of ATA, CO, UA, and US action there.
Happy spotting!

Perhaps we should try to do a spotting trip to Indy, Charlie! Maybe we can get a small group of IND spotters to join us. It would be great to find someone who knew the sweet spots!
If all goes well, I may even head down there on Sunday...

Charlie, I am good friends with Stephen Dobbins and that pic of the UA Express 170 was taken from the FAA tower there. Steve is an ATC student at Purdue so they got to go up in the tower for a class I think, so don't expect to find a spot to get a shot like that.

Thanks for the help guys! I'll definately see what I can do, and yes Drew, I'm not driving through FWA without at least waving as I drive by!

I made a brief appearance at IND last fall. Traffic was very light (a weekday!). I drove the perimeter and I see there is or used to be an airplane viewing park on the west side now barricaded off. All around the lengthly perimeter there are double rows of fencing, some with coiled barbed wire on top much like you'd see at a prison!!! So I spent some time on the parking garage where I only nabbed a couple shots, including Chautauqua's first E170. Thing is, the light is bad for shooting because you are facing south.

Thanks for the input Bruce, I was thinking now of taking the extra driving time and just heading to one of the best airports in the world (because it's a Delta hub!), that being CVG. I just gotta talk Drew into driving there with me now!

CVG? Hale yeah, let's do it. I went down there to meet with A-Star a few months back, there are some nice spots down there!
What a crime... since I was there on business I had to haul tail back to FWA that day, and didn't get to take advantage of the sun. Lord forgive me for that one.
We could start at FWA, and do IND-CVG-CMH in one day.... could be fun! Let me know! And if anyone else wants on in this - sign up, we've not yet set a date. It would be great fun to have a bunch of a.netters do something together!

I'm a pilot and I've always been able to get into the tower... and Charlie's a student. They never really give us problems... Now allowing us up there to chill out for a few hours and fill up some 1gb CF cards - yeah, that may be a challenge!
