Why o why are the pictures of the landing aircraft at Philipsburg / St. Maarten - Princess Juliana (SXM / TNCM) always viewed so often ??

Altough spectacular, there are more then enough of those on a.net that it could be considered overkill ..

Any thoughts ?

Mause,

Half of them are from me. Big grin

The first thing I do everyday on the main page is click on "MOST POPULAR: Of All Time". I then click on 'Philipsburg / St. Maarten - Princess Juliana (SXM / TNCM)' to show all of the new photos. I've viewed every one of them.

Take one part airplane, add sunshine, beach, turquoise water, hot women (usually) and low non-ILS approaches.... ta da!
I wondered the same thing until I was there and actually experienced it first hand.

Even having sex with always the same stunning beauty at the end would be boring....I agree with you Mause. I suppose getting there is something completely different and one would consider every landing as unique and pics worthy...

There are so many now, that no matter how good the shot, they get a bit tedious. Time for some "badcommon" rejections maybe?  Smile

By applying that logic then every single approach shot from Heathrow or departure shot from LAX or any shot from Sydney should be immediately bad common?  Wink

After all there are 1,124 shots from SXM; 25,133 from LHR; 16,363 from LAX and 16,923 from SYD Big grin

True Atco- but look at the SXM pics. They almost all from Maho. Then look at LHR, they are from all over the airport.

If you are bored with a location, airline or aircraft there is no obligation to click on the pic etc. The choice is up to each individual.
That being said...obviously the pics from Maho are extremely popular with a.netters and photographers so what's the gripe?
It's like saying that there are too many pics of the approach to old Kai-Tak in the database.  Yeah sure

Cheers,
Kaz

Do you want to bet money on whether there are more approach shots taken at Heathrow than there are total shots from SXM on the database?

Anyway as Kaz says if you don't want to see it don't look.

All the photos on here have their value and their place, people find SXM pics interesting, whats wrong with that.

BTW, not having a go at LHR guys, just making a point (after all I have more than a few LHR approaches myself !)

Sure we can bet, but you've got a snowballs chance in hell that I'd actually send you money.

Im still pretty sure I seen a plan on the Internet that said that Maho Beach was going to be shut down as the airport expanded.
Here it is:

The airport down here in St. Maarten is being upgraded. Phase II is in progress now, and should be finished in Sept 2006. This is construction of a new terminal building. After that work will commence in Phase III, and this is were the bad news come in. They are going to add a taxiway, but most importantly, they are adding run-off areas to both runways..effectively extending the runway in both ends.
That means good bye Sunset Beach and Sunset Beach Bar. Views of airliners crossing the beach will become history. So for you who haven't seen it yet...you'd better make plans!!

Ha ha ha, that's priceless

You really thought I was making an actual bet, that is too funny. I guess you have never heard of rhetorical questions.

Thanks for giving me a laugh

I am also of the opinion, for what it's worth, that the standard pics from SXM are getting repetitive. However, I think this one is cracking and well deserves to be here.

Any other opinions?

Another excellent JP photograph. My question though is this, how is the focus so sharp with the Sunset Beach Bar so close?  Smile

I didn't know shite was cool.  Wink

Those Sint Maarten pictures are great, and I'd love to go there myself one day - there may even be some cruise ships for me to photograph, too as ships are my first love.
Be a shame if the beach goes though.  Sad
